Job Description

The In Vivo Evaluation Group, Biological Testing Branch (BTB), Developmental Therapeutics Program (DTP) is establishing both in vitro and in vivo tumor lines from patient biopsies and circulating tumor cells (CTCs) from the Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD) clinical center and various comprehensive cancer centers across the United States with the goal of distributing well validated tumor tissue and in vitro cell cultures as well as DNA, RNA, and protein extracts to researchers worldwide. The group also supports evaluation of samples in various animal models to identify drugs with potential therapeutic value.

The Research Technician will be responsible for:
The isolation of patient derived cell lines from patient tumor samples (e.g., biopsies, tumor resections, ctcs)
Routine cell culture tasks including cell line maintenance, preparation of large batches of cells (25-150 flask harvests) for drug studies or cryopreservation, growth of cells on a variety of supports
Preparation of medias and additives
Maintenance of proper records, as each patient derived cell mixture/clone/line will be passaged and expanded multiple times with the intent of delivering carefully documented samples to researchers worldwide
Assist in completing other routine tasks as needed (e.g., label preparation, shipping samples, stocking the lab, etc.).
All work will be conducted under strict BSL2 safety conditions
Work is checked periodically for proper technique
Normal working hours are 8:00AM to 4:30 PM Monday – Friday, however, flexibility is required as patient samples that arrive late must be processed and cells may require attention on weekends/holidays

This is not a shower-in facility, but stringent entry/exit procedures are in place and must be followed.
