General Description:
The Research Program Assistant II (RPA) will be responsible for participant recruitment, performing clinic visits which include administering questionnaires, spirometry and other breathing tests. The RPA II is also responsible for independently performing routine tests in a research laboratory and contributing to general maintenance of the laboratory, equipment and supplies.

Essential Job Functions: Administer simple standardized surveys, clinical assessments and other data collection techniques to patients and their proxies in-person and via phone; record data on case report forms. Call patients with reminders of their appointments. Data entry and management using electronic database and other computer software. Data collection via abstraction from paper-based and electronic clinical records and from adminstering phone and in-person surveys. Able to effectively prioritize and work on multiple tasks with concurrent deadlines and demonstrate excellent time management skills and efficiency. Maintain logs of patient screening, surveys and visits. Maintain filing system for electronic and paper-based research records. Maintain compliance with HIPAA and IRB regulations and guidelines.

Actively communicate and update supervising study coordinators and/or investigators on patient enrollment and data collection status via verbal and written communication. Have initiative in anticipating and responding to staff and research subjects’ needs based on awareness of routine and repeated job functions. Maintain high level of motivation for job functions with positive attitude. Attend regular research group meetings (weekly or monthly). Communicate with study sponsors, coordinators and collaborators. Identify appropriate patients for clinical studies. Obtain informed consent from eligible patients. Collect data via abstraction from paper and electronic medical records. Escort patients through hospital during their research visit. Set up and take down equipment for patient testing. Perform spirometry, induced sputum, exhaled nitric oxide and other breathing tests. Perform routine tests in a research laboratory. General maintenance of the laboratory, equipment, supplies, storage, shipping and receiving of specimens and transport of specimens if necessary. Work independently and under the direction of the study program supervisor to ensure successful completion of each clinical research study.

Requirements



Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred. Two years related experience required. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.Position requires flexibility to accommodate participant’s schedules. Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks, detail oriented, self-motivated, strong interpersonal skills, ability to use personal computer; proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel; database and spreadsheet knowledge. Excellent oral and written communication skills and interviewing techniques required. Detail oriented, strong interpersonal skills and excellent organizational and time management skills required. JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers.
