We are seeking a highly motivated, experienced and flexible candidate with a strong background in molecular biology and discovery of biotherapeutics. The position will contribute primarily to Protein Engineering efforts in early stage discovery, analysis and development of Probody candidates while collaborating across functional groups within CytomX. Responsibilities will include construction of high diversity libraries, discovery and affinity maturation of peptides using CytomX’s bacterial display technology, construction of expression constructs and characterization of Probody leads. The position requires the use of current molecular biology techniques, sequence analysis software, ELISA, flow cytometry, Octet/Biacore measurements and other quantitative techniques for developing structure-activity relationships. Experience with mammalian cell culture, flow cytometry and BLI/SPR methods of affinity determination is desirable. The successful candidate will be expected to employ his/her excellent oral and written communication skills, be highly motivated, well-organized and capable of independent work in a collaborative environment. Strong work ethic is required.
The position requires a BS/MS in molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology or an equivalent field with a minimum of 5 years of laboratory research experience in molecular biology or protein engineering. The successful candidate will have an extensive working knowledge of molecular biology techniques including DNA cloning by PCR/recombination methods, mutagenesis and highly diverse library design. Knowledge of Vector NTI, Sequencher or other sequence manipulation software is highly desirable. The ideal candidate would also have flow cytometry and mammalian cell culture experience. The ability to work with numerous samples in parallel while following detailed scientific protocols and maintaining scientific record keeping is required. The candidate must be productive in a dynamic, expanding research environment, thrive within a team, be able to communicate scientific information effectively and be open to and capable of learning new skills efficiently.
