Job Description


We are seeking a highly motivated scientist to join the Translational Research group at Seattle Genetics, an established leader in the development of tumor-directed antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs).   The research associate will perform cross-functional research to understand the mechanisms of disease biology and drug actions, as well as make intellectual contributions to the advancement of the company's drug development pipeline. The successful applicant will be responsible for working in a team environment with a focus in the cell-based screening core using cutting-edge robotics, technologies and databases to identify and validate novel chemotypes and antibody drug targets. In addition to this responsibility, the scientist will help over-see the mammalian cell bank repository by tracking and maintaining the repository for the research department.  Furthermore, the candidate will be involved in a series of research activities, including collaborative efforts between research groups, and the verbal and written communication of science.


  • Design, perform, and document cell-based screening experiments to explore new drug candidates such as small molecules, biologics and ADCs.
  • Track, expand and maintain inventory of mammalian cell lines.
  • Develop novel and innovative assays systems to mimic the disease biology and facilitate translation between research settings and clinical trials.
  • Execute molecular and cell-based assays across a wide variety of technical platforms (qPCR, Western blotting, Flow cytometry/FACS, immunofluorescence, ELISA, HCS etc.) to assess target modulation and its impact on cell viability and cell cycle disruption, downstream signal transduction, transcription and immune susceptibility.
  • Report data to teams in oral and written reports
  • Present experimental results at both internal group meetings and meetings with members of the Research & Development organization



  • B.A./B.S. in Cancer Biology, Cancer Genetics, Biochemistry, Immunology, Genomics, Cell Biology or related fields in cancer research
  • Prior research experience in drug discovery, biotechnology or the pharmaceutical industry is preferred
  • Experience in mammalian cell culture techniques is required
  • Technical knowledge of cancer biology and oncogenic signaling pathways is a plus
  • Experience in medium to high throughput screening is a plus
  • Technical expertise in multicolor flow cytometry, cell biology assays and tissue culture techniques ( e.g., engineering cell lines) is required. Biochemical methods to investigate signal transduction pathways ( e.g., western blotting and microscopy), and knowledge of rodent cancer models is a plus
  • Ability to utilize electronic data capture/analysis tools such as Excel, GraphPad Prism, and PowerPoint for experimental documentation and data analysis/presentations
  • Candidates must be well-organized and have good interpersonal skills to work collaboratively in a team environment and excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced dynamic environment
  • Job requires laboratory work which includes extended periods of sitting and standing
