Job Description

Rigel Pharmaceuticals is a rapidly growing biopharmaceutical company working to develop and deliver life-changing drug therapies for patients with serious and life-threatening autoimmune conditions. Rigel has filed an NDA for the first potential indication for Fostamatinib, an oral SYK inhibitor, in adult persistent and chronic Immune Thrombocytopenia (ITP). Rigel also has a growing pipeline evaluating Fostamatinib in autoimmune hemolytic anemia (AIHA) and IgA nephropathy. The Research Associate, Chemistry will be joining a small, dedicated group where he/she will have broad exposure to the whole process of R&D to identification of drug candidates. This is a great opportunity to learn and grow.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The successful candidate must be highly motivated with good problem solving, organizational and communication skills.  Further, they will be innovative, team-oriented, working with transparency and integrity for the advancement of early stage drug research to a lead candidate and ultimately clinical development. The successful applicant must also be able to adapt rapidly to new project priorities and have a genuine curiosity for science.  Familiarity with techniques in synthetic organic chemistry, including but not limited to, laboratory skills, experimental write-up and data interpretation from contemporary spectroscopic techniques is a must.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
•   Organize, set up and perform experiments both independently and supporting other senior members of the department
•   Analyze data and present results to the department team
•   Interface and work with members of the department to identify and advance drug candidates
•   Will be assigned other projects as needed

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
•   B.S. in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry with a minimum of two years laboratory experience or M.S. level candidate with demonstrated laboratory experience.  Medicinal Chemistry experience and/or industry experience in a biotech/biopharmaceutical environment are a plus
•   Solid analytical skills - plans and performs experiments
•   Must be a highly motivated, independent, productive, team player working as part of a disciplined team with a zeal for problem solving
•   The ability to organize and communicate laboratory results (both oral and written) is important.
•   Ability to operate computers and specialized laboratory equipment such as NMR, HPLC, LCMS, FTIR and UV/VIS
•   Knowledge of standard laboratory techniques (for example conducting experiments under an inert atmosphere) is a must
