Job Description

Harpoon Therapeutics is a startup biotechnology company located in Brisbane, CA.  We are focused on the development of novel immune cell engaging therapeutics for oncology indications. Harpoon is looking for an energetic and highly motivated Research Associate to design and make protein expression constructs, perform phage, and support a variety of assays to assess protein function.

Key Responsibilities

- Use protein sequences from engineers to design DNA expression constructs
- Perform phage display screening
- Create detailed plasmid maps in VectorNTI
- Order oligos and gene blocks
- Perform molecular biology techniques to make DNA constructs
- Send samples to service providers for DNA sequencing and plasmid purification
- Analyze DNA sequencing data
- Enter DNA construct information into inventory databases
- Present results at team meetings
- Troubleshoot experiments with minimal supervision and provide solutions to increase data quality and assay throughput
- Maintain a lab notebook with clear descriptions of procedures and results
- Assist in EH&S activities
- Adapt to and perform new responsibilities depending on the needs of the Harpoon Therapeutics, such as performing cell biology, protein expression, and target validation experiments

Requirements

Skills and Qualifications

The ideal candidate will have:
- a bachelor’s or master’s degree in molecular biology, biochemistry, or related field
- at least 2 years’ relevant work experience
- a demonstrated ability to work independently with limited supervision
- a proven ability to learn and adapt in an evolving work environment
- effective communication skills

The candidate will preferably have prior experience:
- designing protein expression constructs
- making plasmid DNA constructs
- performing for phage display
- using VectorNTI software to make plasmid maps
