Research Associate/Associate Scientist, Neurophysiology

Dart NeuroScience LLC (DNS) is a privately held Delaware Limited Liability Company with offices in San Diego CA.  DNS will discover new technologies and develop new therapies to help maintain cognitive vitality throughout life.  DNS’s Vertebrate Neurobiology group focuses on the identification of genes and gene networks central to memory formation and its underlying cellular plasticity.  Key regulatory proteins will become targets for small molecule drug discovery.

We are seeking an Associate Scientist / Research Associate with expertise in patch clamp electrophysiology on cell lines, primary neuron cultures and/or brain slices. The successful candidate will conduct in vitro studies of ion channels and neurotransmitter receptors to support our discovery programs. The ideal candidate will be a goal-oriented team player, who keeps meticulous records, is able to work independently and understands the importance of project timelines.

The selected candidate will be working in a creative, fast-paced environment, interacting with scientists from diversified scientific backgrounds including biology, bioinformatics, high-throughput drug screening, and computational, synthetic and medicinal chemistry. The position demands team-oriented execution of time-dependent experiments. The candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills and must be organized with data collection, meeting presentations and composing study reports. Performs other related duties as required and assigned.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS:

•A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Biomedical Engineering or related field.
•3+ years of hands-on laboratory experience in a Biotech, Pharmaceutical or Academic setting is preferred.
•Experience preparing primary neuron cultures and brain slices is preferred.  
•Participate in the development and implementation of conventional and automated patch clamp assays.
•Keep meticulous records of experiments and results.
•High level of initiative, independence, and ability to work unsupervised.
•Excellent interpersonal communication skills.  Ability to effectively interact with an interdisciplinary team of molecular biologists, pharmacologists and behaviorists.
•Proficient with common software applications (e.g., Excel, Word and PowerPoint).
