Job Description


Phylagen is developing a microbiome data generation and analytics platform with applications ranging from supply chain security to public health. We are bringing on an innovative lab scientist knowledgeable in microbiome sample handling and high-throughput sequencing library preparation. You will be joining a diverse technology team that includes molecular biologists, data scientists, and ecologists.

You will be part of a team, but must also be able to contribute significantly on an individual basis and work independently. As part of a small company, you may be required to perform tasks in areas outside of their primary responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

 - Acquire field samples from a wide variety of environments
 - Travel frequently (up to 20% of time)
 - Develop, optimize, and implement protocols to generate amplicon and shotgun metagenomic libraries
 - Generate libraries for Illumina, PacBio, and Oxford Nanopore platforms
 - Translate lab processes to automated and high-throughput pipelines
 - Manage and organize assay workflows, draft protocols, and support lab operations

Requirements


Qualifications:

 - B.S. or M.S.  in biology, molecular biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or related field with 3+ years of lab experience
 - Experience with field sample collection and preservation methods for microbiome analyses
 - Experience with a variety of nucleic acid isolation extraction techniques
 - Experience with amplicon and metagenomic library preparation for Illumina, PacBio, and/or Oxford Nanopore platforms is highly desired
 - Experience with qPCR
 - Proficiency in aseptic molecular lab techniques
 - Skilled at developing SOPs and documentation in lab notebooks
 - Demonstrated ability to work independently and be a fully contributing member of a multi-functional fast-paced team environment
 - Experience in working as part of a team to design, develop, optimize and validate assays
 - Experience in implementing and prioritizing quality work across multiple projects under tight time constraints
 - Detail oriented and organized
