Description

The New York Structural Biology Center is a shared research organization, owned and operated by nine eminent universities and medical schools in the New York area, and devoted to the structural analysis of biological processes through the use of NMR, X-ray crystallography, and electron microscopy.

We are seeking a Research Associate to work in the protein production/X-ray crystallography lab.  Duties will be varied, given the diversity of our research projects, but will focus on:
   - molecular cloning and mutagenesis
   - protein expression and purification in bacterial, insect, and/or mammalian cells
   - crystallization of purified proteins
As we are a small group with no support staff, duties will also include a certain amount of media preparation, glass washing, etc.

Salary level is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Requirements

Candidates must meet the following requirements to be considered:
   - a Bachelor’s degree (Master's preferred) in biology, biochemistry, or a closely related discipline
   - extensive experience in cloning, protein expression, and purification (4+ years preferred)
   - proven ability to work on multiple independent projects at the same time
We will not consider any PhD level applicants for this position.

Experience in insect or mammalian cell culture, or in protein crystallization, is desirable.  We expect the candidate to have excellent communication, record-keeping, and time management skills.  As an organization that encourages growth, we hope that the candidate shows a broader interest in structural biology and could eventually aid in data collection of crystallized proteins.
