Research Assistant/Associate
Novozymes is seeking a Research Assistant/Associate with excellent Molecular Biology skills to join the biomass enzyme discovery and development team. The assistant will perform experiments to identify effective enzymes for industrial application in biorefineries. The Research Assistant/Associate will be responsible for cloning and expressing candidate genes in microbial hosts, and constructing novel expression and screening systems.  This is a two year position.

Qualifications
This position requires a B.S. or M.S. in Biological Sciences (e.g., Molecular biology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, or related discipline). The successful candidate will also have at least one year of research experience working with recombinant DNA techniques. Experience in bacterial gene expression is preferred.

The successful candidate will have basic knowledge of molecular cloning techniques such as DNA & RNA isolation, PCR, microbial transformations, gel electrophoresis, genomic and library screening, or recombinant protein expression.  Experience working with Bacillus subtilis would be preferred, but not required. Mainstream computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and familiarity with standard molecular biology software tools are essential.  

Candidate should possess the following attributes:

• Strong written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills.
•Attention to detail and ability to work under deadlines.
• Be a productive player in an interdisciplinary team environment.

Challenges
Candidate will be challenged to develop streamlined methods for rapid evaluation of enzyme candidates and will learn state of the art methods in microbial discovery and diversity as part of an experienced and multidisciplinary research team.
