Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Biologics Project Manager/ Senior Biologics Project Manager plays a pivotal role within MedImmune.  S/he acts as project manager for the global early drug development Product Development Team (PDT) and the associated Translational Sciences Sub-Team (TSST). The project scope is from Candidate Drug nomination up to investment decision for Phase 3. S/he reports into the global biologics project management organisation. The main responsibilities of the role are:

  • Partners with the PDT Leader to lead the team to develop the project strategy and optimise delivery in terms of time, cost, value and risk.
  • Partners with the Translational Sciences Lead to lead the team deliver the drug’s safety assessment, PK/PD, biomarker and personalised healthcare strategy.
  • With a focus on efficiency and productivity, coordinates all activities of the PDT  
  • Acts as a role model within the team for partnering, collaboration and cross-functional working.
  • Creates and maintains the integrated Product Development Plan and generation of project budget forecast.
  • Identifies issues and facilitates problem solving, contingency planning, and decision-making.
  • Ensures effective and timely communication between the PDT, line management, senior management and external partners regarding status, issues, risks and proposed solutions.
  • Ensures documentation of, and access to, key project documents, presentations and data.
  • Assumes full responsibility for managing specific aspects of the project as designated by team leadership.

Successful Candidate Requirements

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with great attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to manage and lead teams within a biopharma or biotech environment.
  • Understand overall biologic/pharmaceutical drug development process, the major requirements at different stages of development, and the role of different functional areas.
  • Working knowledge of the biological sciences with technical, scientific or medical expertise in one or more pharmaceutical product development functional areas.
  • Basic knowledge of regulatory requirements and processes for drug development, and records management.
  • Ability to create, coordinate, and maintain a project plan and rapidly respond to changes in strategy and project scope.
  • Expertise with project management tools, including skills in critical path analysis. Experience with MS Project and/or Planisware is a plus.
  • Understand financial and resource planning systems and processes and have ability to coordinate project level budget/resource estimates and manage actuals vs. plan.



BA/BSc in a biological science or equivalent is required with a minimum of 5 years (8 years for senior role) of project experience in a BioPharma or Biotech environment. Project management certification is not required.
