General Description:
The mission of Center is to improve cardiovascular disease outcomes and reduce racial and ethnic disparities in the healthcare experienced by persons with high blood pressure in Baltimore, Maryland. The Center is using community-based participatory research principles to build strong ties among researchers, healthcare provider networks, community members, and policy-makers. It is composed of three intervention studies to improve the identification, treatment, and outcomes of African Americans with hypertension; three integrated and complimentary Cores (Administrative, Shared Resources, and Training); an Internal Steering Committee; a Data Safety and Monitoring Board, and a Community and Provider Advisory Board. General Description:
Reporting to the Center Director/ Principal Investigator (PI), participates in developing, implementing, and evaluating existing and new initiatives to further the mission and goals of the Center’s projects, scientific cores and services, and leadership. Specific areas of responsibility include operations, project and program development and management, serving an active role in writing for both lay and professional audiences on behalf of the Center, participating in getting the Center’s work out to the public, and overseeing training programs. Responsible for program fiscal oversight.

Duties and Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Center PI, lead numerous administrative and operational projects and initiatives to achieve Center objectives. Conduct analyses; research best practices for operational challenges; serve as the administrative and business liaison to faculty-led, research program development processes; incorporate metrics into projects and assist in evaluating effectiveness of all activities, proposing, revising and overseeing activities as necessary to achieve successful efforts. Effectively manage multiple concurrent projects, while collaborating with Center faculty, staff, outside vendors and stakeholders, by acting as a project leader and manager, ensuring all members of cross-functional teams are working together to accomplish objectives. Serves as a contributor at every level of project execution, from creative concept to final deliverables Actively liaison with 25 investigators (led by 3 Principal Investigators (PIs) and 15 project staff to integrate and assure the provision of administrative services across dispersed Center units and other JHMI research (e.g., Center for Health Disparities Solutions), training programs (GIM fellowship, Cardiovascular Epidemiology T32, Endocrinology T32 and T32, Nursing T32), and various Centers/ Institutes. Collaborate with leaders and managers at other JHMI consortium locations to manage extensive, joint administrative responsibilities. Work in coordination with the research team from each of the Center’s three projects and three cores to ensure accuracy, proper organization and advanced preparation of sponsored projects deliverables. Plans agendas and coordinates overall Center, Administrative Core, Training Core, and Community Advisory Board meetings with assistance from research administrative coordinator. Review and edit minutes from meetings of the Overall Center, Administrative Core, Training Core, and Community Advisory Board meetings (prepared by research assistants, research administrative coordinator, and community program coordinator) to assure that key discussion points and action items are included; assure timely distribution and maintenance of archives of such minutes. Gather and incorporate appropriate feedback and approvals from all Center stakeholders as needed for specific programs and projects. Represents the Center within and outside the institution on behalf of the PI and faculty, including attending meetings on behalf of the PI, and preparing follow-up reports. Support the work of the Center’s research studies by developing recruitment and educational materials, intervention tools and other marketing/communication materials.

Develops and actively participates in communications strategy for the center. Includes robust website targeting internal and external audiences, social media strategy, participation in community activities, seminars, symposiums, and conferences, and weekly newsletter for staff and stakeholders. Work with Office of Marketing and Communications to develop targeted, consistent messages to be used across platforms aimed at increasing brand position for Center within Johns Hopkins community, locally, and nationally. Participate in the development and submission of manuscripts related to overall Center programs (e.g., Center Design Paper, Training Core and Community Advisory Board) including editorial support, literature reviews, data gathering, table and figure development and manuscript submissions Ensures maintenance of database of Center academic publications, news articles, faculty presentations and awards. Researches and prepares remarks and presentations on behalf of PI and faculty and for PI to deliver, including audiovisual materials. Manages the translation/dissemination process in collaboration with Center PIs and Dissemination and Translation Sub-Core Director by assisting the investigative teams in developing plans for disseminating the results of the Center’s studies, educational programs, and community engagement initiatives.

In addition, prepare results of training core, administrative core and community board evaluations, including development of posters and PowerPoint presentations, for presentation at professional meetings. Develops infrastructure to support training activities at all levels. Trainees include undergraduate and graduate students, post docs, junior faculty, community health personnel, and community members. Assists in identifying candidates for the Center’s training programs and expands recruitment efforts for the Center’s training programs. Participate in developing training materials, including presentations on cardiovascular health concerns in support of community partner’s health promotional activities. Oversee the Center’s administrative research coordinator in designing and sending announcements about the Center’s training program to Department Chairs and Division Directors in the Schools of Medicine, Public Health, and Nursing to help identify established faculty interested in formal health disparities training. Supports organization of mentoring teams and communication among mentors and mentees. Provides direction to trainees for enrollment in the Health Disparities Certificate Program and Journal Club and in the Community-Based Participatory Research Course and Seminar.

Provides scientific guidance to Center PI and other faculty regarding the content and format of the Center’s Seminar Series, Trainee Curricula, Research in Progress Meetings, and Community Education Programs and provides guidance to research administrative coordinator and community program coordinator in planning these programs. Assist in the review and selection of trainee projects for pilot funding. Serve as a liaison between the parent training grant directors, the Disparities Training Core Director and Co-Director, and the trainees. In collaboration with Center and Project PIs, plan, direct, and execute Annual Progress Report/non-competing and competing continuation proposal submission process. Edit annual and mid-year scientific and programmatic reports to funders in collaboration with project PIs and research teams. Contribute to assessment of emerging funding opportunities, weighing costs, benefits, and strategic fit. Help to manage the pipeline of proposals and related relationships with funders.

Oversees budget development by guiding financial personnel in requesting budget quotes from institutional facilities and employing them in an overall budget for each respective project and budget year Track and manage budgets and timelines to ensure all projects are delivered on schedule and on budget. Actively liaison with Division of General Medicine finance manager to integrate budgetary information. Analyze expenditures and forecast potential Center costs across various scenarios to assist in future project planning. Monitor use of resources in accordance with project plans and budgets, and generates reports to faculty and project manager to assist their control of resources in their areas of responsibility, in a collaborative manner. Allocate resources and develop efficiencies to improve and maintain research and educational/training activities of the Center and to ensure a positive financial performance. Designs system procedures to ensure compliance with grant and institution regulations. Collects, reviews for adherence to regulation, and tracks all regulatory documentation for sites involved in studies. Ensure all regulatory compliance, documentation, and sponsor requirements are met.

Requirements



Qualifications:
Master’s degree in related discipline required. Requires minimum of five years of experience in a healthcare or complex research environment. In addition, requires experience managing complex, collaborative research projects and processes. Additional education may substitute for required experience, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. Special skills and knowledge: • Demonstrated success in the management of programs, activities or units is required. • Proven success managing diverse and successful teams is required. • Outstanding intellectual capability, problem solving skills, and ability to learn complex content quickly and apply it to project management responsibilities. • Strong leader, self-starter, flexible, able to work independently and in teams, and able to take multiple priories and translate them into project completion through expert planning. • Exemplary organizational skills • Must exhibit stellar writing (writing samples will be requested), communication and relationship management skills and ability to thrive in a multi-disciplinary, fast-paced, and dynamic, environment. • Intermediate to advance skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, ACCESS) Preferred: Knowledge of hospital and university finance administration. • Statistical software such as STATA or SAS. • Significant management experience, with strength in training, mentoring and delegating. • Experience with cardiovascular disease and or healthcare disparities health services research. JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job.
