   Main Duties and Responsibilities

   Position Summary  


   We are seeking a highly motivated individual to support large molecule (peptide, antibody, and therapeutic protein), preclinical drug discovery efforts in the Department of Cardiovascular / Metabolic Diseases for the treatment of obesity, type 2 diabetes (T2D) and its complications (chronic kidney disease (CKD), heart failure and nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH)).  The major responsibilities of this position involves: 1) leading a team of scientists in progressing a growing preclinical drug discovery pipeline ranging from project start to initiation of GLP toxicology studies; 2) contributing to an assessment of external business alliances and in-licensing opportunities; 3) develop novel strategies to screen and identify new drug targets, and 4) to instill scientific innovation through personal leadership and mentorship.  

   The ideal candidate must have expert knowledge in Metabolic Regulation and Metabolic Disorders as evidenced by an excellent record of publications in peer-reviewed journals with high-impact, proven track-record with preclinical drug discovery (preferably biologics) from conception of project to early clinical trials with excellent management skills. The person in this role should have the ability to set high but reachable goals, define priorities, manage individual performance, and infuse the team with a sense of purpose and direction, scientific creativity, as well as influence scientific thinking and direction of multifunctional drug discovery projects. They should also be able to build and manage collaborations within and outside the organization, be well organized with outstanding interpersonal and oral/written communication skills, and be able to manage several projects at a time.  

   Essential Requirements  

  •      Expert scientific knowledge of T2D, obesity, CKD, heart failure and/or NASH.    
  •      Conducts, plans and leads one or more highly complex scientific projects, including determining objectives, organizing activities and strategic direction.    
  •      An emerging leader as evidenced by internal consulting, mentoring and project team membership and active support.    
  •      Maintains high level of expertise through review of current scientific literature, submissions to scientific journals, and attendance and participation at conferences focused on the research and development efforts of the company.    
  •      Decisions or recommendations consistently result in achievement of significant project objectives.    
  •      Through collaboration with management, expands business opportunities for the company and development opportunities for scientists.    




   PhD (11-13 yr) MS (15-17 yr) or BS (17-20 yr),   in biology/biochemistry with a specialization in Metabolic Disorders.  

   Desirable requirements  

  •      Experience in pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industries and excellent publication record.    
  •      Outstanding team leadership skills.
