The Principal Scientist, Biology will be responsible for projects aimed at the identification of novel therapeutic strategies for retinal diseases. This incumbent will be required to conceive, design, plan, implement and oversee a range of biochemical and cell-based assays as well as in vivo model studies to identify, validate and characterize potential therapeutic targets. This position requires a demonstrated competency in pharmacology, cell biology and familiarity with in vivo models of disease in addition to supervisory experience. Experience in the fields of ophthalmology or vision research or in drug development an asset. The incumbent will be required to work both independently and in a team environment, coordinating and actively managing several concurrent projects. Incumbent will also be required to train and supervise junior staff members and to advise and consult with other scientists in R&D as well as outside collaborators.

Requirements

Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in a basic science (pharmacology, immunology, molecular biology, biochemistry, cell biology) or M.D.
Five plus years of specific post-doctoral experience required. Minimum of 2 years of industry experience preferred.
Essential Skills and Abilities:
Practical and demonstrated experience in several of the following areas: pharmacology, molecular biology, cellular biology, model development  
Working knowledge of standard analytical and statistical principles
Experience with in vivo models of disease, transgenic or knockout technology an asset
Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communications
Ability to work under minimum supervision and in a team environment
Ability to perform supervisory duties; willingness to train and mentor junior level team members
Ophthamology experience highly desirable
