Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Principal Project Manager leads and manages projects that support new products at the West Chester Ohio Supply Site and is responsible for all phases of a project including business case justification, project initiation, sanctioning, planning, execution and closure. Project responsibilities also include project team management, stakeholder management and project communications. The scope of work often includes projects or programs that are multifunctional and can be related to new products, new launches or increasing capacity and efficiencies associated with products early in the their lifecycle.

Lead, direct and manage projects in support of business and operations strategies including but not limited to new product introductions, technical transfer, or transformation initiatives at the West Chester Supply Site. Control project budget and timeline. Manage supplier activities during design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, and qualification of new equipment. Ensure compliance with all new product introduction, technical transfer and equipment/facility qualification standards and procedures. Align with and utilize the AstraZeneca Project Management Framework (PMF), including execution of all project phases (justify, initiate, plan, execute and close), serve as champion relative to AZ PMF, and use standard project management tools. Ensure project activities are managed through quality change control system. Develop and manage project plans, resource requirements, budgets and schedules. Manage changes to project scope, ensuring original objectives are met in the appropriate timing. Identify and control project risks using the integrated risk management framework.

Create and execute project stakeholder management and communications plans. Manage issues and negotiate conflicts within and across projects. Share best practices and provide coaching with informal Project Managers on site. Communicate priorities and progress to team on a continuing basis. Facilitate communication between management and non-management. Facilitate team meetings to discuss progress, initiatives, and/or other matters. Lead cross-functional teams to meet project and strategic goals including collaboration with global colleagues. Coordinate the activities of third party personnel. Manage team's priorities, goals, and resource allocation.

Up to 10% travel may be required – domestic and international.


Essential Requirements
  • Four year degree in Engineering or related discipline
  • 5-8 years of experience in project management
  • Experience in a GMP environment and demonstrated knowledge in various aspects of Pharmaceutical Operations, including Manufacturing and Packaging operations
  • Proven expertise in successfully delivering business-critical projects involving cross­ functional participants, stakeholders and organizations
  • Ability to manage and develop cross- functional teams, plan and execute multiple project tasks, and multiple projects concurrently
  • Demonstrated sound judgement, good business acumen and strong analytical skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMPs)
  • Demonstrated project management skills
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, influencing and communication skills
  • Knowledge of and experience with lean concepts and tools
  • Proficient in MS suite of software tools (PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Project)
