Hospira  Principal Engineer I, Global Visual Inspection and Labeling Technology Aspire...to save others' lives, while shaping your own .The Principal Engineer, Global Visual Inspection and Labeling Technology will be the leading engineering expert for Hospira's visual inspection (VI) and labeling technology programs. The role will include both maintenance of existing technology and development of new processes and equipment for Hospira. The Principal Engineer will provide direction and leadership to Hospira's technical resources at the manufacturing sites and the global technical centers. The Principal is responsible for aligning Engineering, Manufacturing, Technical Operations and Quality to develop and maintain standards, policies, specifications for VI and labeling equipment and processes employed at Hospira. The engineering standards, policies and specifications are owned and maintained by the principal engineer.  The Principal will develop and maintain cost effective and compliant technologies to inspect and label new and existing products. The Principal will work directly or indirectly with global regulatory and quality staff to address related audit observations and submission deficiencies. The incumbent will provide the necessary leadership, resources (internal and external) and process engineering support to ensure the success of related technical elements of projects under the direction of the local global engineering teams around the world. The Incumbent is also responsible to directly manage engineering projects as assigned by the Director, Global Process and Equipment Engineering.MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Leads technical portion of the execution of visual inspection and labeling process and equipment capital improvement projects at Hospira's manufacturing sites. Principal will assist the global resources deployed at the manufacturing sites to effectively execute the applicable process engineering portion of capital projects in collaboration with project and automation teams.     Provides leadership for the planning, development and implementation of programs and projects to improve related equipment design in support of the Hospira's manufacturing plants to facilitate the implementation of cost reductions, new product launches and ongoing process maintenance.     Participates in global surveillance of manufacturing technologies and equipment to assure competitive manufacturing process in Hospira.     As the leader of the equipment and process engineering resources, the incumbent is responsible for the timely completion of technically sound and functional manufacturing lines which meet the project performance objectives and are within the appropriated budgets. Dollar value of project responsibility is $5MM to $50MM annually.  50% travel is required

Requirements

Requirements Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field; specifically Electrical, Chemical or Mechanical. Master's degree preferred. Technical training in pharmaceutical process design (i.e. Aseptic filling, packaging). Plant experience is preferred Not less than 10 years pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred. A minimum of 12 years experience in process and equipment engineering is preferred with 4 years of related experience in visual inspection and packaging equipment. A minimum of 8 years experience managing consulting and contract engineering resources in support of capital project implementation is preferred. International experience preferred. Process design, equipment selection, cost estimating scheduling and people management experience are required. Academic training or practical experience in financial analysis and economic evaluation is necessary to ensure that proper business considerations are included in the decision - making process. Excellent communications skills in oral, written, and presentation situations providing clear, informative, and persuasive communication in positive and negative scenarios.
