Monocot Transformation in Applied Technology Systems (ATS) at DuPont Pioneer is a research and technology support function accountable for the development of cutting edge plant transformation technologies/systems and the efficient application of these technologies/systems to developing new biotechnology products. The Senior Research Scientist in Monocot Transformation will lead a team to develop, improve and implement new enabling transformation and gene integration technologies for high throughput transgenic plant production.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Provide scientific leadership to a team of scientists collaborating in a multi-disciplinary approach to develop and implement novel crop transformation gene integration technologies. The candidate will be responsible for providing scientific direction, developing robust research strategies and execution of research plans.
The candidate will be accountable for the ultimate deployment of newly-developed enabling technology within the Production Transformation team. The Research Scientist will work closely with Monocot Transformation leadership to develop and maintain a strategic monocot crop transformation research science plan. Will provide management expertise, scientific leadership, critical thinking and creativity when initiating, designing, and executing research projects within/across projects. Provide leadership and management for a team of scientists in multiple locations. Communicate progress updates, experimental results and appropriate metrics within Applied Technology Systems and across DuPont Pioneer. Effectively manage budgets and research portfolios.

Requirements

Qualifications:
PhD in plant biology, genetics, biotechnology, or related discipline with a minimum of 4-6 year of scientific management or leadership experience, and more than 8 years of related industry research experience required. Demonstrated scientific experience conducting successful experiments in plant biotechnology with an excellent track record in the form of research publications, patents, and/or biotechnology product development. A broad knowledge and understanding of plant transformation technology and agricultural biotechnology in general.  Experience working in the plant biotechnology industry is preferred. Excellent interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to lead diverse teams to attain shared science objectives. Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to manage people in multiple locations. Must be results oriented with demonstrated significant record of success in recent 5 years.
