SYMIC OVERVIEW:

Symic Bio is a clinical stage biotherapeutics company focused on matrix biology. Symic is developing a platform of matrix regulators, novel compounds that target and regulate the extracellular matrix (ECM), the non¬cellular component of tissue. The ECM plays a critical role in a wide variety of processes involved in acute and chronic indications. The matrix regulators generated by Symic Bio’s proprietary technology are inspired by proteoglycans, which are naturally occurring macromolecules that play important structural and regulatory functions in the ECM. Symic Bio currently has two unique molecules currently undergoing Phase II clinical studies, one being evaluated in vascular injury and the other in osteoarthritis. Symic Bio’s pipeline includes preclinical programs targeting oncology, fibrosis and CNS disorders.

JOB SUMMARY:

An immediate opening exists for a Pharmacology Scientist whose primary responsibility is implementing pharmacology in vivo studies to test candidate molecules in Symic’s lead and discovery programs. Reporting to the Director of Preclinical Development, this position requires prior experience with disease-related animal models to evaluate compound efficacy in support of preclinical drug discovery efforts. Additionally, this position may be responsible for the development and execution of PK/PD studies for novel compounds.   This individual will perform all aspects of study design, protocol development, study execution, data analysis, and generation of study reports. The Pharmacology Scientist will join a multidisciplinary Research and Development team in a fast-paced environment evaluating and advancing novel agents targeting extracellular matrix in various therapeutics indications including cardiovascular, inflammatory disorders, oncology, fibrosis and others.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

•   Design, conduct and manage experiments related to the discovery of novel drugs in-house or with CROs including identifying and selecting CROs.
•   Write formal protocols for studies, either independently or in collaboration with a study site.
•   Communicate timelines for critical path items to ensure on-time deliverables and successful execution of studies.
•   Work with the R&D team to ensure test articles are prepared, characterized, and formulated for timely delivery to study sites.
•   Monitor in vivo procedures at study sites.
•   Keep detailed records of data and procedures during studies.
•   Analyze, interpret and present data from in vivo studies.
•   Generate formal reports documenting all aspects of in vivo pharmacology studies.
•   Approx. 20% of Scientist’s time will be in the laboratory for molecule preparation, characterization, and formulation for studies; another 20% will be spent traveling to monitor study sites; and the remainder will involve planning, analyzing, and documenting pharmacological studies.  

Requirements


PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

•   BS/MS with a background in biology/pharmacology and 4+ years’ industry experience, or PhD with a background in biology/pharmacology
•   Prior experience working with Institutional IACUC and understanding of AAALAS Guidelines
•   Experience designing, conducting and managing experiments with CROs related to the discovery of novel drugs
•   Working knowledge of cell culture, ELISA and fluorescent microscopy
•   Up to 20% travel; may include international travel

•   Exceptional organization skills and ability to multitask on numerous projects
•   Outstanding technical writing skills including expertise in formal study protocol and final report generation
•   Careful documentation in laboratory notebooks with high attention to detail
•   Team-oriented, collaborative, flexible and willing to adapt to changing needs and timelines
