To extend our Industrial Biosciences’ Intellectual Property team, we are looking for:
Patent Agent
Palo Alto, California

We are looking for an experienced (Registered) US Patent Agent to join our team to help support our Industrial Biosciences business based out of our Palo Alto office. Applicants should have extensive experience in preparing patent applications and in prosecution, as well as an advanced degree or equivalent experience in biochemistry, molecular biology or microbiology.  Specifically, applicants should have experience in preparing and prosecuting biotechnology patent applications under USPTO TC1600, as well as experience working with foreign associates to assist and coordinate filing and prosecution of international patent matters.  Outstanding communication skills including an ability to explain clearly patent/IP principles in connection with the scientific innovations at hand, to spot issues and develop plans to tackle tasks of some complexity will be required for the interactions with scientists, attorneys and people in business development.  The candidate should, at a minimum, have the ability to work proactively to coordinate multiple demands and meet aggressive timelines. Experiences with developing and implementation of IP Strategies, conducting freedom-to-operate analyses, IP portfolio analyses, and/or patent mapping are a plus.

Requirements
•Minimum 3-5 years of experience in drafting and prosecuting Biotech applications  (USPTO TC1600) as a Registered U.S. Patent Agent
•Drafted and filed at least 20 priority patent applications on distinct inventions within the subject matters of USPTO TC1600, during the past 3 years
•Strong technical background in molecular biology, microbiology and/or biochemistry, and a capability of connecting the scientific details of inventions with patentability considerations
•Outstanding communication and networking skills
•Outstanding writing skills as demonstrated by original writing samples of patent applications, prosecution submissions, memorandums, and other communications
•Ability to participate in a multidisciplinary team composed of inventors, attorneys, technical managers, and business development leaders
•Outstanding organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and ability to multitask and prioritize projects with aggressive deadlines
•Highly motivated with strong problem solving skills
•Capable of working both independently and as part of a collaborative team
