ABOUT RIGEL:
Rigel Pharmaceuticals, Inc. is a biotechnology company dedicated to discovering, developing and providing novel small molecule drugs that significantly improve the lives of patients with immune and hematological disorders, cancer and rare diseases. Rigel's pioneering research focuses on signaling pathways that are critical to disease mechanisms. The company's current clinical programs include clinical trials of fostamatinib, an oral spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) inhibitor, in a number of indications. Rigel has submitted and the FDA has accepted for review, an NDA for fostamatinib in patients with chronic or persistent immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). In addition, Rigel has product candidates in development with partners BerGenBio AS, Daiichi Sankyo and Aclaris Therapeutics. The candidate will be a key member of the legal department.

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Executive Director of Intellectual Property, the candidate will be responsible for docketing deadlines in an active patent and trademark prosecution portfolio and will be the go-to individual for retrieving and organizing all legal-related documents.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  
•   Docketing patent and trademark prosecution deadlines;
•   Monitoring and coordinating annuities and maintenance fee payments;
•   Monitoring and maintaining legal files in electronic and paper forms;
•   Preparing documents, including correspondence, status reports and slides for presentations;
•   Managing and filing legal department correspondence;
•   Organizing general legal filing;
•   Coordinating records retention and archival across departments;
•   Preparing e-file trees for departments, uploading e-rooms, and coordinating due diligences;
•   Preparing physical files for contracts, projects and patents;
•   Managing and coordinating outside counsel, including invoices, and,
•   Physically filing all patent, contract and corporate documents.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:  
•   B.S. degree required;
•   Patent docketing experience preferred (PATTSY experience a plus);
•   Maintenance fee docketing and payment experience preferred (CPI experience a plus);
•   Excellent organizational skills;
•   Ability to multi-task and prioritize duties;
•   Meticulous attention to detail;
•   Excellent oral and written communication skills;
•   Notary Public appointment or willingness to obtain;
•   Science background a plus;
•   Team player;
•   Flexible schedule considered for law student.
