PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Clinical Monitoring Research Program (CMRP) provides comprehensive, dedicated clinical research and study coordination support to the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Intramural Clinical Management and Operations Branch.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The Nurse Case Manager (NCM) II will provide direct nursing support and care to outpatient clinical programs within the Laboratory of Immunoregulation’s OP8 Clinic. Coordinates patient schedules to meet the required protocol procedures, data collection time points and nursing care. Inputs and/or directs the input of patient travel and remuneration according to the protocol. Assists physicians in protocol required procedures, including phlebotomy and intravenous catheter placement and pharmacokinetics. Orders labs, x-rays, and other diagnostic procedures prescribed by the protocol and/or clinically indicated in a computerized patient management system. Reviews the results, alerts physicians to abnormal outcomes or problematic trends and collaborates on protocol/practice required interventions. Serves as a liaison between an assigned caseload of patients and other health care team members to ensure appropriate intervention is instituted for any research or health-related Adverse Event. The NCM II also functions as the case manager during any period of inpatient hospitalization. This position is located in Bethesda, Maryland.

Requirements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

- Possession of a current professional license as a Registered Nurse (RN) from any U.S. state. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- In addition to the RN requirements, a minimum of two (2) years recent nursing/clinical experience.
- Ability to function independently and/or collaboratively within a team setting.
- Demonstrates highly effective problem-solving, planning and organizational skills.
- Effectively manages complex research programs in a large institutional setting.
- Possesses strong working knowledge of clinical research concepts, ethics, processes and protocol implementation and management.
- Possesses background knowledge in clinical trials or pharmaceutical projects.
- This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Prior experience in adult/pediatric clinical trials management is preferred.
- General knowledge of biological principles and scientific methods.
- Case management in a pharmaceutical, biotechnology and/or clinical environment and/or Certified Case Manager credential is preferred.
- HIV/infectious diseases experience is a plus.
