3M is seeking a Noise and Thermal Applications Engineer for the Industrial Business Group, Aerospace Aircraft Maintenance Division, E-A-R Specialty Composites to be located in Indianapolis, IN.

Job Summary:

The person hired for the position of Applications Engineer will primarily be responsible for providing overall engineering leadership for the Commercial Vehicles Market. This is an important and exciting position working in an attractive technical environment with as much as 20 percent Business travel. It requires an individual with strong leadership skills, who is an excellent decision maker, and possesses the ability to collect facts and filter symptoms to define problems in the areas of Noise and Thermal Control engineering. Typical development activities will take place in the home office, Acoustic Technology Center and in the field with customers.

Roles and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
-  Design and validate cost effective Noise and Thermal solutions for Commercial Vehicle market applications while interacting with OEM’s engineering personnel.
-  Identify, Improve, and Develop Noise and Thermal control materials.
-  Provide leadership, guidance and coordination to test engineers and technicians on acoustic and thermal development programs and material evaluations.
-  Present technical papers at conferences and trade shows.
-  Lead technical training for selected E-A-R personnel (account managers, customer service, inside sales, etc.)
-  Provide technical support to PR releases and other promotional efforts.
-  Assist in literature development, and other tasks as assigned.

Location: The person hired for the position of Applications Engineer will be located in Indianapolis, IN. This position may include up to 20% travel.

Must be legally authorized to work in country of employment without sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H1B status)

Requirements

Qualifications

Basic/Minimum Qualifications:
-  Bachelor's degree in an Engineering, Science or Technical discipline from an accredited University
-  1+ year of Noise Control and/or Thermal Insulation Design experience

Preferred Qualifications:
-  Masters of Science Degree or PhD in Mechanical Engineering
-  3+ years of experience in the fields of noise and thermal control in a commercial and/or industrial setting, associated with one or more of the following industries:  Commercial vehicles, Automotive, Bus or RV
-  Balanced mix of excellent Acoustic and Thermal skills
-  Highly familiar with noise control and thermal insulation materials
-  Noise and Temperature data acquisition and/or analysis experience
-  Experienced with high temperature protection/insulation in commercial vehicle/automotive applications
-  Significant course/laboratory work in Acoustics and Thermal Engineering.
