Description


Within the therapeutic field of Hepatitis C, establish and maintain professional relationships with healthcare providers, including clinical trial investigators, academic physicians, community group physicians, nurses, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals. Serve as a resource and scientific expert on disease state concepts, Vertex products (current and in development) clinical and health economic information.   Establish relationships with opinion leaders to expand research, advisory and other collaborative opportunities. Serve as a disease-state resource and communicate information obtained from appropriate field interactions to internal staff.  
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
- Establish and maintain relationships and a respected Vertex presence in the academic and group practice medical community;
- Maintain a high standard of integrity and professionalism in the medical community, including the sharing of scientific data in full compliance with company policies;
- Engage in MSL team activities/initiatives and interact with the medical community;
- Under the direction of Medical Affairs management, coordinate with internal staff to identify and interact on various programs to maximize effective utilization of resources;
- Serve as an educational resource to healthcare providers on disease state concepts, including providing effective presentations to groups, and participating in 1:1 discussions, tailoring discussions to meet specific needs;
- Provide support to clinical site investigators, as needed, as a resource to the clinical department (e.g., assisting with site identification and site initiation visits);
- Respond to unsolicited requests for information on clinical data and act as primary resources on Vertex products;
- Keep abreast of changes in treatment trends that could impact Vertex;
- Act as the primary resource to healthcare providers who request information on Vertex products;
- Serve as a liaison between key corporate functional areas and healthcare providers who express interest in conducting investigator-initiated research, to facilitate review and consideration of research proposals;
- Develop productive relationships with thought leaders in the medical community and in the group practice setting;
- Upon request of Vertex managed care teams, communicate scientific merits that support the economic value of Vertex products to payers and formulary committees;
- Serve as a disease-state resource and communicate information obtained from field interactions to internal staff;
- Represent and support Vertex at medical conferences.

Communicate effectively and efficiently
- Create and maintain open lines of communication with internal clients;
- Communicate scientific information clearly in a variety of settings, including but not limited to internal meetings, clinical investigator meetings, advisory boards and individual discussions;
- Participate in training and staff meetings within medical affairs groups and in planning of consulting meetings
Minimum Qualifications:
- Advanced biomedical sciences degree (DO, MD, NP, PA, PharmD, PhD) required or clinically relevant experience commensurate with one of these listed degrees; hepatology experience preferred
- 3 + years of field MSL experience or 4 years clinical/research experience preferred

Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to complete goals within allotted timeframes, and deliver high quality results
- Ability to initiate, plan and complete projects
- Strong initiative and ability to identify issues and create solutions
- Ability to comprehend current literature and understand health economic.
- Ability to effectively present clinical/scientific information in a group or individual setting
- Knowledge of appropriate marketplace desired
- Understanding of healthcare regulatory environment in Canada
- Ability to use Microsoft Office programs and to work in a matrix environment
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to travel up to 70% including air travel, plus internal/external meetings
- Ideally based in Greater Vancouver Area, although other locations will be considered
