We have an immediate opening in the Global Discovery Chemistry Analytics (GDC-AX) group for a highly motivated B.S/M.S. level analytical scientist. The GDC-AX group is a multidisciplinary group that maintains the technology and expertise necessary to provide innovative solutions to challenging problems in drug discovery at our state-of-the-art facilities in Cambridge, Massachusetts. GDC-AX collaborates with all research groups to comprehensively characterize molecules ranging from traditional small molecules to biotherapeutics and their effects in biological systems. A core function is also to apply new technologies to benefit the Novartis research community, where we strive to make lifesaving therapies a reality. The group is well equipped with modern analytical instrumentation covering most types of capabilities MS, NMR, optical spectroscopy etc, and the candidate will be exposed to a wide range of scientific problems.
We are seeking an energetic B.S./M.S. level scientist specialized in small molecule or protein quantitation/characterization by LCMS. The candidate will join our analytical chemistry team where the primary focus is to support various research efforts using the state-of-the-art LCMS techniques. This position will support NIBR chemists and biologists with small molecule quantitation/characterization in complex mixtures (cell cultures, media, tissues, bio-fluids). The individual will offer LCMS support for structure elucidation of small organic molecules and peptides/proteins. The individual will interface with Scientific Operations group to develop/implement new open access methods for chemists as they arise and aid in data interpretation. While the primary focus of the position is to apply LCMS to support medicinal chemistry and chemical biology projects, this position will also be required to interface with the physico-chemical characterization group and offer method development and hands-on support for compound solubility and other assays, such as logD and pKa.
A B.S. scientist with 6+ years or a M.S. degree with 4+ years of experience in small molecule and/or protein LCMS preferably from a pharmaceutical/ biotechnology setting. Significant experience in separations (RP, IEX, SEC), in-depth knowledge of common ion sources (ESI, MALDI, CI) and mass analyzers (QQQ, ion traps, Orbitrap, TOF). Familiarity with using LCMS systems for quantitation and characterization of molecules from complex biological matrices. Familiarity with LCMS and Quantitation software packages from Thermo, Waters, ABSciex, Agilent. The ability to handle multiple projects and a mentality for expanding and networking into new areas to help the Global Discovery Chemistry group solve scientific problems is a must. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential. Experience in cell culture, microfluidics, automation would also be useful.
