Job Description

Summary/Objective

The Manager/Sr. Manager, Translational Medicine & Diagnostics, acts as an independent scientist responsible for preclinical projects in collaboration with academic laboratories and CROs. This person interacts with all members of the Translational Medicine & Diagnostics team, specific members of the Clinical Development team and with key opinion leaders and is accountable for the oversight and quality of pre-clinical science deliverables. Responsibilities may include some or all of the following:


Essential Functions

•   Plan, implement and manage pre-clinical projects with outside laboratories
•   Champion pre-clinical projects from inception and design to completion
•   Lead contact on assigned pre-clinical development projects
•   Ensure that pre-clinical data is scientifically rigorous and supports clinical development
•   Present pre-clinical data and the relevant literature at internal meetings
•   Effectively manage projects as part of a multidisciplinary team
•   Contribute to publications and presentations
•   Represent supported projects at scientific conferences
•   Leads interactions with investigators and cooperative groups
•   Attends 3-4 scientific meeting or off-site meetings per year
•   Other duties as assigned



Competencies

•   Proven ability to direct preclinical studies involving PDX, xenograft models and cell lines
•   Deep understanding of complex cellular signaling pathways
•   Experience with small molecules is preferred
•   Preclinical study design and writing
•   Data review and interpretation
•   Ability to work effectively with a cross-functional study team
•   Ability to manage multiple (3-5) projects simultaneously, set and meet deadlines
•   Excellent oral and written communication skills

Supervisor Responsibilities
This position may manage employees of the department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of any employees reporting to this role within that department.


Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. This position regularly requires long hours and may require weekend work.

Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The physical demands of the office are normally associated with extended amounts of time sitting and using office equipment, including a computer, keyboard and mouse, which can cause muscle strain. Travel
Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected. Travel may be required (up to 10 %).

Requirements

Required Education & Experience

•   Advanced Clinical/Science Degree (e.g. PharmD, PhD, Postdoctoral)
•   Experience in pre-clinical/translational drug discovery, demonstrated strong achievements in academic and industry settings
•   Minimum 5 years pre-clinical development experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry, 2 years may be sufficient for candidates with translational postdoctoral experience
•   Knowledge of international regulations pertinent to current clinical development (eg ICH, FDA, EMA)
