Job Description

The Manager Operational Excellence is responsible for leading and implementing Lean and SixSigma operational excellence policies, tools, and projects within the organization.  Educates, coaches and motivates employees to achieve a culture of continuous improvement ensuring sustained positive change in manufacturing processes and yield, quality, cost and all administrative processes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned):

•   Lead all project teams in the Lean6Sigma initiative as the deployment champion.
•   Develop and manage the improvement project pipeline:  Analyze opportunities for waste elimination/performance improvement periodically to develop target list for improvement projects.
•   Working with the leadership team, set up projects and recruit project teams for defined projects.
•   Coach project teams as the deployment champion: train project teams on use of Lean6Sigma mindset, culture, methods and tools.
•   Control progress of the improvement projects to completion; emphasize the sustainability of the improved processes.
•   Be the company expert on Lean6Sigma and overall continuous improvement concepts.
•   Set goals and objectives, personal and for teams, to drive continuous improvement.
•   Implement and report with the defined frequency the metrics demonstrating progress achieved.

•   Leadership - Demonstrates strong project management skills working with cross-functional project teams. Leads teams in developing alternative solutions in search of the best. Engages employees from all levels in the continuous improvement process.
•   Technical Knowledge – Uses knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology and knowledge of material properties, production processes, quality requirements and quality control, cost accounting and other techniques for maximizing the effectiveness of a company manufacturing pharmaceutical products.
•   Coaching - Knows principles and methods of training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups and the measurement of training effects.
•   Communication – Applies English language observing the correct meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar. Compels audiences of all levels to follow his/her descriptions in written and spoken addresses.
•   Computer Skills - Demonstrates proficiency in use of MS Office Suite:  Excel, Word, PowerPoint and MS Project applications.
•   Adaptability—adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events.
•   Dependability—is consistently at work and on time and is able to work flexible hours to meet the demands of the business, follows instructions, responds to management direction and solicits feedback to improve performance.
•   Safety and security—actively promotes and personally observes safety and security procedures, and uses equipment and materials properly.


Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Science field from a four-year college or university required.  Two years of previous experience leading continuous improvement processes in an FDA controlled manufacturing industry required.  Lean / Six Sigma Black Belt strongly preferred.
