Managed Care Liaison (MCL) II - Northeast
Establish and maintain professional relationships with healthcare providers and their staff within the managed care payer setting including P&T members, medical directors, specialty pharmacists and other decision makers. Serve as a resource and scientific expert on disease state concepts, Vertex products' (current and in development) clinical and health economic information. Serve as a disease state resource and communicate information obtained from appropriate field interactions with HCPs within managed care payers to internal staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain relationships
- Establish a respected Vertex presence in the managed care payer and specialty pharmacy community.
- Maintain existing relationships with managed care decision makers and also seek opportunities to develop new relationships within the payer and managed care pharmacy professional organizations to support Vertex's initiatives.
- Maintain a high standard of integrity and professionalism in the payer and managed care community, including the sharing of scientific data in full compliance with company policies.
- Engage in MCL team activities/initiatives.
- Interaction with HCPs in the payer community
- Under the direction of Medical Affairs management, coordinate with internal staff to identify and interact on various programs to maximize effective utilization of resources.
- Respond to unsolicited requests for information on clinical data and act as primary resource to payer-affiliated HCPs on approved Vertex products and those in development.
- Keep abreast of changes in treatment and reimbursement trends that could impact Vertex.
- Respond to unsolicited requests for health economics data/models and scientific merits that support the economic value of Vertex products to payers and formulary committees.
- Maintain clinical expertise and in-depth, up to date knowledge of Vertex's product pipeline and familiarity with competitors' product portfolio.
- Communicate information obtained from field interactions to internal staff.
- Represent and support Vertex at medical conferences.
- Presents relevant scientific and clinical information in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to internal meetings, advisory boards, and individual / group discussions.
- Assists as needed in the development of Vertex projects and initiatives with internal colleagues across functional areas, including Medical Affairs, Clinical Operations, and Commercial/Marketing.
- Participate in training and staff meetings within Medical Affairs groups and in planning of consulting meetings.
- Pharmacist, Pharm D or RPh
- Minimum of 4 years of experience in Pharmaceutical or Biotech industry.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience as a Managed Care Liaison (MCL) or a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) whose primary responsibility involved communicating with managed care decision makers.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to travel at least 60%; including travel outside the Northeast - Mid Atlantic region and assigned National Accounts.
- Knowledge of payers and utilization management trends within assigned national and regional payers.
- Ability to effectively present clinical/scientific and health economics information in a group or individual setting.
- Ability to comprehend current medical literature and a thorough understanding of health economics concepts.
- Understanding of healthcare regulatory environment.
Preferred Requirements:
- PharmD preferred
- Knowledge of managed care decision making, through prior work experience within managed care, preferred.
- Ability to complete goals within allotted timeframes and deliver high quality results.
- Ability to initiate, plan and complete projects, including the management of multiple priorities.
- Proactively aligns activities with the Medical Affairs' annual Medical Plan and other strategic initiatives.
- Ability to identify issues and create solutions.
- Ability to use Microsoft Office programs and work in a matrix environment.
