The primary focus of the Learning and Development Lead is to develop and maintain a regional learning and development strategy, ensure effective utilization of learning management tools and systems, provide a link between Americas Operations and global Operations learning and development strategy and initiatives, and provide oversight and direction of learning and development activities to meet role-specific general, technical, and regulatory requirements.

This role works with learning management colleagues in the Americas region to ensure that learning management strategies and initiatives are in alignment with Global Operations and Americas Region goals and needs. The role facilitates a network of Operations Learning and Development Managers across the Americas region to ensure consistency in use of technology, process and tactics as required, as well as sharing good practices. The role will also participate in a network of Global Operations Learning and Development leaders to ensure alignment of global and regional requirements, support implementation of global initiatives, and represent the Americas region in global programs.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Develop and implement a regional Operations learning and development strategy, ensuring business needs are being met and strategy is in alignment with global Operations learning and development approach.
  • Act as the process owner for the learning and development process and the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring that the process is performing in a manner that achieves compliance and business needs in a sustainable fashion.
  • Ensure the LMS is maintained through change control and upgrade activities, information is current, training profiles and role curricula are kept updated, knowledge and skills gaps are identified, and compliance against goals is monitored.
  • Ensure role learning curricula and assignments including technical, team, and leadership training reflect capability and development objectives consistent with business, organizational, and regulatory needs and requirements.
  • Provide expertise in learning management process and tools to subject matter experts, coaching them to determine learning needs and to develop appropriate training. Develop training as appropriate based on own experience.
  • Design, implement and lead training initiatives aligned with business priorities and learning requirements as appropriate.
  • Act as Americas representative on global Operations learning and development initiatives and participate in global Operations community of practice or other global Operations learning and development forums.
  • Develop and implement methods and tools designed to assess training and development needs and to measure effectiveness of learning events and learning processes.
  • Facilitate a network of Operations Learning Managers across the Americas Region to ensure strategic alignment and consistent approach and application of learning strategy and in use of technology, process and tactics as required. Ensure the sharing of learning and development good practices occurs across Americas locations and with Global Operations.
  • Provide training, leadership, direction and coaching for the local departmental LMS administrators.
  • Manage the development and execution of the regional training budget if one exists.
  • Stay abreast of new technologies and trends in the fields of learning and human performance improvements and participate in professional organizations.

Requirements

Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree with 5 or more years of experience in some aspect of strategic learning management.
  • 2 or more years of experience performing learning and development activities at a manufacturing site.
  • Working knowledge of cGMPs and Safety, Health and Environmental regulations and experience working in a regulated environment.
  • Work experience in the pharmaceutical, medical device, food, or consumer goods industries.
  • Effective communication, presentation, organizational & interpersonal skills.
  • Understanding of adult learning theory, instructional design and a variety of learning methodologies.
  • Experience administering and working in a learning management system (LMS).
  • Demonstrated internal consulting skills and ability to facilitate and provide feedback to employees and leaders at all levels.
  • Good project management, problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to perform well in a team-based environment.
  • Ability to align learning initiatives with strategic objectives.
  • Ability to influence without authority.

Preferred Background:

  • Multi-lingual; Fluent in Spanish.
  • Involvement in industry groups with specializations in effective learning management and training.
  • Experience administering and working in SABA Cloud.
  • Working knowledge of Lean.

Internal and External Contacts/Customers:

  • Directs and coaches Americas regional managers and subject matter experts in development of training strategies and learning methods.
  • Americas Region, Americas business and Global Operations learning community members.
  • Works with AstraZeneca corporate groups (HR, Legal, SHE, Purchasing, Regulatory Affairs, Compliance, etc.) on program and education implementations.
  • Works with AstraZeneca Global groups (AZSS, Lean Library, Quality, and Global Learning group) on program implementations, continuous improvement, and content development.
