As part of this expansion, Lilly is developing a state of the art research automation platform to revolutionize access to molecules and enable pharmaceutical innovation across the continuum of small and large molecules. Lilly is recruiting Laboratory Automation Engineer/Scientist to lead, develop and support the technology platform that will operate the new automated facility. In this role you will be part of Lilly’s Discovery Global Automation Team and have the opportunity to shape the way Life Science research will be done, working in a multi-disciplinary, global and vibrant environment. In this position you will:Work with internal and external partners to design and implement complex laboratory automation systems, through integration of commercial laboratory instrumentation with customized hardware and software components as required.Provide technical project management and leadership for the requirements definition, procurement, development, implementation and commissioning phases of Laboratory Automation projects.Develop software to command and integrate automation equipment and/or enable flow of data between data sources (LIMS, files, databases) and instruments.Engage with scientists across Lilly’s Discovery Global Organization to develop a deep understanding of new initiatives or existing scientific processes, and identify optimal automation solutions and process improvement opportunities.Analyze project needs and translate them into software requirements to be shared internally and with partner engineering companies.Support automation software across a range of applications including chemical synthesis, analytical technologies, sample management and biophysical/biochemical/cellular assaysBSc, MS or PhD degree in Life Sciences (Chemistry, Biology), Computer Science, Physical Science or Engineering or related field with 7+ years of relevant experience (3+ years of relevant experience for qualified PhD candidate) developing Windows based software applications as well as integrating laboratory automation equipment.Lilly is an EEO/Affirmative Action Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of age, race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, national origin, protected veteran status, disability or any other legally protected status.

*Basic Qualifications  
•BSc, MS or PhD degree in Life Sciences (Chemistry, Biology), Computer Science, Physical Science or Engineering or related field with 7+ years of relevant experience (3+ years of relevant experience for qualified PhD candidate) developing Windows based software applications as well as integrating laboratory automation equipment.

Additional Skills/Preferences  
•Experience in software applications using .NET (C#, VB, ASP.NET) / Java / other OO languages, database (e.g. Oracle, SQL Server) technologies including extensive command of SQL language and service oriented architectures.
•Experience interfacing with LIMS systems and writing device drivers.
•Experience integrating laboratory automation equipment such as liquid handlers, automated stores, experiment execution platforms, analyzers and robotics
•Track record of success delivering high quality complex automation/software solutions.
•Experience developing scheduling and modelling algorithms and strategies.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Strong analytical and multitasking skills.
•Ability to work effectively in a team.
•Can do attitude.
