To support our critical business strategies, we are currently seeking a Director (or Sr. Director, based on experience and background) in our Compliance department. The Director will have direct responsibility for the implementation of the Company's Global Compliance function in Europe and Australia. The Director will serve as an integral member of the Corporate Compliance Leadership Team and will be expected to influence the strategic direction of Vertex's Corporate Compliance Program.

Location: Geneva, Switzerland (Possibly Milton Park, UK)

This position will report directly to the VP, Chief Compliance Officer at Vertex.

Key Responsibilities:

This role will be responsible for the implementation of the Company's Global Compliance function and program in the European and Australian markets through close coordination with regional and local country management. The primary objective is to build and sustain an effective compliance program for covered countries, providing leadership and oversight through country visits and regular communication to covered markets.

 

Responsibilities to drive the compliance program in the Company's regional and local operations include:

-    Developing and implementing annual and long-term strategic compliance plans in collaboration with broader Compliance department that reflect the seven elements of an effective compliance program.

-    Identifying and assessing existing and emerging country and international business practice issues and risks. Developing and executing a risk-based, country and subject area-prioritized annual compliance program.

-    Working to resolve individual compliance issues/questions and investigations assessing root causes, developing corrective action plans, and ensuring consistent discipline.

-    Leading regional compliance initiatives to improve compliance related business processes building greater efficiencies and reduced bureaucracies.

-    Leading global efforts to implement and maintain Company's Global Anti-bribery / Anti-Corruption program.

-    Providing leadership and oversight related to EU Privacy laws and regulations.

-    Providing training to regional and local teams and associates on various compliance matters.

-    Assisting Compliance Department associates with Global Transparency Initiative and related reporting (i.e, France, UK, Australia, etc) , compliance risk assessments, and compliance Monitoring & Auditing.

-    Maintaining a current working knowledge of various laws, regulations, and industry guidance that affect the corporate-wide compliance program.

-    Bachelor's degree required and advanced degree preferred (JD or equivalent, MBA, PhD, etc).

-    Ability to travel 25% - 35 % of the time.

-    Substantial medical device or pharmaceutical company compliance program experience as either a member of a corporate compliance team, consultant, or outside counsel.

-    Proven record of accomplishment in the areas of compliance training, auditing, monitoring and/or investigations.

-    Strong working knowledge of various laws, regulations, and industry guidance that affect the corporate-wide compliance program, including: fraud and abuse and anti-bribery laws (FCPA and UK Bribery Act), Industry Codes and guidelines, and EU Privacy laws.

-    Working knowledge of business functions and activities within a pharmaceutical company including R&D/Clinical, Medical/Regulatory Affairs, Sales & Marketing, etc.

-    Effective public speaking skills and an ability to communicate in both verbal and written form with employees throughout the company.

-    Excellent organizational and planning skills and the capacity to simultaneously handle a variety of complex confidential issues.

-    Language Requirements: Must be fluent in English. Proficiency in Spanish, Italian, French, or German would be valued greatly.
