Job Summary:
The Application Development Specialist will lead the advancement and application of new-to-the world 3M solutions/technology into focus markets that include consumer electronics and metal fabrication.  Responsibilities for this role will include leading collaborations with key customers to identify and implement new applications and work closely with key supply chain partners to build robust processes to deliver a high quality product to the customer.  In addition, this position will lead customer/designer engagements to understand key product requirements, understanding 3M materials and process technologies, and build supplier network to deliver leading edge technology to our customers.

3M’s Industrial Adhesives & Tapes Division is seeking an Application Development Specialist located in Chicago, Illinois.

Roles and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Be a key contributor on a new product introduction (NPI) team to deliver new-to-the world solutions to our key customers.
- Collaborate with laboratory, sales, marketing, manufacturing and quality functions to build a robust product solution that meets the key customer requirements.
- Work with our Key Customers in understanding their functional requirements then translating their input into 3M solutions.
- Initiate, identify, and implement new customer applications for 3M solutions.
- Develop a deep understanding of market requirements/specifications and build test method understanding to align the 3M solutions to the customer requirements.
- Work closely with high technology supply chain partners to build robust processes and methodologies to deliver a high quality product to the customer.
- Advance expertise of shape memory polymer molding and applications involving this unique material set.
- Build a foundational understanding of 3M materials – process – performance for the product portfolio.
- Build collaborative relationships both inside and outside 3M.
- Other duties as assigned.
Relocation: Relocation is authorized within country for this opportunity per 3M policies.

Location: The person hired for the position of Application Development Specialist will be located in Chicago, Illinois and this position may include up to 25% travel.

Requirements

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in a Science or Engineering discipline from an accredited university.
- Minimum of three years of combined commercialization and/or application development experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Chemistry, or Material Science from an accredited university.
- Experience working with polymeric materials, adhesives and precision coating technologies.
- Experience working with polyurethanes.
- Experience in thermoforming and injection molding polymer forming processes.
- Experience in application development within the industrial and electronics market space.
- Innovative, resourceful, organized, and experienced self starter.
- Collaborative interpersonal style with experience in leading project teams.
- Excellent hand written and oral communication skills with analytical problem solving ability.
