As a Hematology Customer Strategy Director in Gaithersburg, MD you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. North American Commercial is the ‘face’ of AstraZeneca and MedImmune to our many healthcare clients. They represent many of the most well recognized and respected products in the industry, and build strong relationships with healthcare professionals.

AstraZeneca’s vision in Oncology is to help patients by redefining the cancer-treatment paradigm, with the aim of bringing six new cancer medicines to patients between 2013 and 2020. A broad pipeline of next-generation medicines is focused principally on four disease areas - breast, ovarian, lung and hematological cancers. As well as other tumor types, these are being targeted through four key platforms - immunotherapy, the genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, and antibody drug conjugates, underpinned by personalized healthcare and biomarker technologies.

The Hematology Customer Strategy Director will be responsible for building brand advocacy, and leading external engagement with key customers across the hematology portfolio, including acalabrutinib and moxetumomab. This individual will support the brand teams and other internal stakeholders/partners in building relationships and advocacy with key external experts (Thought Leaders) across the country.

The primary responsibility for this individual is to lead the Thought Leader engagement strategy and tactics. Other key responsibilities include: 1) Identifying Thought Leaders / KEEs and developing appropriate engagement plans, 2) Oversee and execute on congress/convention KOL plans.

This position will report directly into the US Hematology Franchise head and will work in close partnership with the head of hematology marketing and the head of hematology sales. In addition, this position will work collaboratively across the IO, Women’s Cancer and Lung Cancer Franchise teams, and will play a critical role in ensuring the franchise has a market leadership presence with healthcare providers and key accounts.

The Hematology Customer Strategy Director is responsible for Identifying Key External Experts in hematological malignancies in both academic and community oncology settings and help build brand advocacy. Utilizing input from external thought leaders to help build market leadership and commercial strategies, through appropriate tactics (advisory boards, expert consultants, and 1:1 engagements)
Develop a clear, actionable customer strategy across multiple tumor types including identification and prioritization of key customers. Building a franchise-wide strategy around speaker programs, including identification of speakers for both promotional and unbranded content. Working with marketing team to maximize commercial presence at national and local scientific meetings with a common purpose and strategy. Managing partner agency relationships, workflow and related expense budgets as needed to execute customer engagement, promotional medical education, and congress plans.

Additionally, the Hematology Customer Strategy Director will be a direct brand team link into key account teams to ensure all resources are available to the teams. Will be a member of the US Hematology Franchise Leadership Team and compliant with all external regulations and internal policies --and also ensure broader AZ team is compliant and enforce compliance (i.e., Code of Conduct, US Policy Handbook, and other AZ Policies, Standards and SOPs).

Requirements

Required:

  • Bachelor's Degree; preferably in a relevant field
  • 7+ years of pharmaceutical or Healthcare experience in Marketing
  • 5+ years Brand Management experience
  • 3+ years Hematology-Oncology experience
  • Exhibit high capability at working collaboratively, thinking strategically, and juggling multiple priorities

Preferred:

  • MBA in relevant field
  • Comprehensive understanding of drug development and commercialization process
  • Exhibit high capability at working collaboratively, thinking strategically
  • Experience in Managed Markets promotions and/or strategy role
  • Experience in Insight/Market Research
  • Sales and/or Sales Leadership experience
  • Oncology or specialty care experience
