Main Duties and Responsibilities

As a member of the Health Systems Account Team, you will be responsible for the access strategies that underpin AstraZeneca Specialty Care products in Respiratory Biologics and Infectious Disease and for achievement of assigned objectives for both the region and assigned institutions/hospitals. Your focus as the Health Systems Account Manager will be centered on two separate respiratory monoclonal antibodies.

Respiratory Biologics:

Access:  As the HSM you will be accountable for coordinating and facilitating newly approved products onto formulary while facilitating inclusion in the HIT systems in line with approved label.  This includes appropriate management and coordination of supporting AZ teams with the health system stakeholders including C-Suite leaders, P&T committees and External Experts. HSMs are accountable for the coordination of activities by NCADs, RCADs, MSLs, PSSs and non-biologics teams (e.g., EBD, CBD, HSS, etc)

Partnerships:  In addition, you will build strong relationships with key decision makers and work to ensure we can identify opportunities to appropriately work with the customer on areas of mutual benefit (e.g., RWE, Development and Implementation of protocols and EHRs that help support better patient care for severe uncontrolled asthma).

Infectious Disease:

Advocacy:  As the HSM you will be responsible for nurturing and channeling advocacy in order to support more favorable patient protocols. Paramount in this function is the ability to effectively share scientific information that translates into real world practice.

Transition of Care:  As the HSM you will be accountable for establishing protocols that optimally transition the patient from the inpatient setting to the outpatient setting. This transitional focus will include engagement in our Access support programs as well as our world class compliance program.

Responsibilities will be weighted and these weights may change, season to season, based on the company's priorities.

In addition to the above mentioned skill sets, this position will require account based management skills, clinical expertise, managerial courage, organizational agility, and excellent communication skills.  As the HSM you will be expected to be the primary point of contact with any relevant promotion of Respiratory Biologics and Infectious Disease products within assigned health systems.

Judgment Requirements

In this position, you will be required to show substantial individual judgment given the level and significance of interactions with customers, and the seriousness associated with the indications for our products. You are expected to have the degree of judgment and diplomacy necessary to maintain the Regional Business Unit interpersonal relationships and keep functioning in a positive manner. You are to know, understand, and comply with all corporate policies (i.e., US Policy Handbook) and relevant Federal and State laws, rules and regulations as well as health system policies.

Decision-making Requirements

In this position, you are expected to make broad day-to-day decisions and must, therefore, be able to make decisions that reflect and support the overall strategies of the regional business unit and Company. Quality decisions, which may be made in the presence of customers, need to be based on appropriate training and personal judgment. Other key decision activities may include, but are not limited to: (1) establishing territory objectives and strategy; (2) prioritizing, targeting and selling to specific customers; (3) managing the regional business unit budget; and (4) coordinating appropriate AstraZeneca and Corporate Partner personnel to accomplish objectives.

Initiative Requirements

Autonomy:  In this role you are expected to function effectively without close supervision; therefore, it is imperative that each possess strong decision-making abilities, the capacity to quickly and effectively respond to questions and unusual situations, have a strong work ethic and be goal-oriented. You should have a high degree of self-discipline and personal drive in order to focus on activities and communications that will support achievement of stated national goals while continuing to build individual capabilities. HSM's must be self-motivated to seek out, recognize, and act upon local market opportunities central to the short-term and long-term success of the company.

Communication and Teamwork

Inside:  Significant interaction with all personnel at the regional business unit level is required, including participation in regional and account team meetings (e.g., other HSM's, Sales partners, Managed Markets personnel, Government/Corporate Affairs, Reimbursement Specialists, and Field Medical personnel as per policy). You will be instrumental in coordinating the communication among individuals within the Regional Business Unit. Internal communication also includes professional interactions with home office personnel.

Outside:  Professional and diplomatic interaction with many levels of health and business professionals will be required. A firm understanding of healthcare industry and system trends is required.

Requirements

Essential Requirements

  • A four-year college degree, preferably in a scientific/medical or business discipline or relevant experience is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years proven, successful hospital sales/clinical experience in the Specialty Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology, or Medical Products industry and/or 3 years of sales success at AstraZeneca Specialty with endorsements from appropriate members of AstraZeneca Specialty's sales management team is required.
  • Experience with complex dynamics of biologic distribution and acquisition at both inpatient and outpatient level is strongly preferred.
  • Experience with successfully navigating Health System formulary pathways.
  • Recent Experience in the Respiratory Therapeutic Arena
