Job Description

You will lead and coordinate key activities associated with translational biology of AnaptysBio’s proprietary antibody programs towards the clinic.  Specifically, you will develop and implement strategies for transitioning programs from the preclinical stage to clinical studies across all therapeutic areas in the portfolio. In partnership with supporting functions, you will explore potential therapeutic applications of novel compounds to support clinical development strategy.  Activities will include defining, validating and developing relevant preclinical translational studies leading to biomarkers and pharmacodynamic tests used to predict and monitor in vivo drug biological activity and efficacy in disease settings.  Will leverage translational biology to define and stratify patient populations most likely to benefit from novel therapeutic approaches for targeted indications.  

•   Design and execute translational biology studies supporting preclinical and clinical development of AnaptysBio’s inflammation and immuno-oncology programs
•   Conduct analyses of biological pathways to establish relevance to disease indications of interest to AnaptysBio’s therapeutic focus.
•   Closely work with the clinical team to devise optimal clinical strategies.
•   Closely liaise with discovery to facilitate the fast and smooth transfer of all the required biology assays needed in a clinical context.
•   Develop all the preclinical patient-related studies required for optimal characterization of targets.
•   Develop guidelines for selection, validation, and prioritization of translational biomarkers, ensuring alignment with AnaptysBio’s product development strategies
•   Work closely with external research collaborators and contractors (CROs) for preclinical and clinical translational efforts
•   Lead internal efforts to complement  and match external efforts
•   Explore biomarker identification/validation and interface with the discovery and development teams throughout the development process.
•   Represent development projects at management meetings as well to external stakeholders.
•   Work with Project Management to develop timelines and budgets, and ensure that tasks are completed appropriately - establishing and monitoring measurable research milestones.
•   Participate in new target identification, including translational biology assessment of emerging biology within therapeutic areas of strategic interest to AnaptysBio Establish and maintain a network of external experts for molecular and biological target identification and validation
•   Contribute to the preparation of documentation required for regulatory submissions, including INDs.  
•   Participate in the design and execution of clinical studies leading to proof of concept.
•   Manage CROs for method transfer, validation, sample analysis monitoring and report generation.
•   Contribute to non-clinical and clinical study design, data generation and reporting, regulatory document preparation, regulatory interaction and submission.


•   PhD/MD in the Biological Sciences, with extensive experience in Inflammation and Immunology (i.e. 15+ years of relevant, direct experience in preclinical/clinical development up to Phase 2 clinical studies,); clinician scientist PhD preferred.
•   Proven track record in the translational development of drug candidates to include drug treatment approaches.
•   Technical credibility and expertise in Translational Biology; including hands-on experience taking biological molecules (through preclinical development into the clinic.
•   Strong management skills with 5+ years managing a team or group of scientists, and experience leading multi-disciplinary teams.
•   Solid working knowledge of pharmaceutical discovery and research
•   Strong project management skills with the ability to deliver results on schedule in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
•   Prior experience of working across diverse therapeutic areas is highly desirable.
•   Proven track record of making major contributions to the discovery of one or more marketed or in-development medicines
•   Sound theoretical and experimental background in biology coupled with a solid foundation in translational biology in the context of human diseases.  
•   Direct experience and knowledge of all the requirements  needed to progress to first-in-human studies
•   Excellent leadership skills and proven ability to work within multi-disciplinary teams to influence the overall direction of projects
•   Proven track record in leading teams in the validation and implementation of preclinical models for testing immunological therapies.
•   Proven track record of leading teams in good experimental design, in-depth data analysis and interpretation based on strong scientific rationale
•   Strong publication record in reputed pharmacology journals.
•   Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively influence actions and opinions of others, present results and analysis to colleagues at all levels.  
•   Demonstrated group presentation skills; Participates in meetings. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.  
•   Ability to work productively in a matrix team environment in a complex, changing environment, achieving success and building morale and group commitments to goals and objectives;
•   Ability to define issues, collect, and analyze complex data, and draw valid conclusions.
