Gaithersburg, MD, you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives.

   AstraZeneca’s vision in Oncology is to help patients by redefining the cancer-treatment paradigm, with the aim of bringing six new cancer medicines to patients between 2013 and 2020. A broad pipeline of next-generation medicines is focused principally on four disease areas - breast, ovarian, lung and haematological cancers. As well as other tumour types, these are being targeted through four key platforms - immunotherapy, the genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, and antibody drug conjugates, underpinned by personalized healthcare and biomarker technologies.  

   As Head of Haematology, you will be responsible for the development of a world class Haematology Franchise, including oversight of all assets in the current haematology portfolio as well as external collaborations. You will be responsible for building a Commercial Centre of Excellence for haematology in AZ, providing matrix leadership to other global functions including Medical Affairs, Analytics & Insights, Pricing & Market Access, and Communications. You will be accountable for all strategic and operational plans to support the launch of haematology products, including the development and implementation of key pre-launch activities, as well as engaging with regions and key markets to drive launch readiness and commercial excellence.  

Main Duties and Responsibilities

 

   You will be responsible for the development and global implementation of brand strategy, brand positioning, launch plans/programmes, forecasts and KPIs  

   Represent the commercial function at the cross-functional Global Product Team on an ad-hoc basis, in order to drive development direction  

   Lead cross-functional Core Business Team, including representation from Medical Affairs, Analytics & Insights, Pricing & Market Access, and Communications  

   Engagement with regions and key markets to build new capabilities, drive launch readiness and commercial excellence  

   Additional Responsibilities:  

   You will be responsible for development, coaching and mentorship of AZ- and Acerta-based GPPS employees  

   Oversight of commercial strategic input into early product teams, and integration of pipeline assets into Haematology Franchise

   Provision of strategic input into all external collaborations  

   Creation of a long-term vision and strategy for the AZ Haematology Franchise  

   Lead commercial investment options and evaluation of external opportunities  

   Job dimensions:  

   Key external stakeholders: Physicians/KOLs, Payors/regulatory stakeholder groups, Patients, Regulators, 3rd Party Groups/suppliers/creative agencies  

   Key internal stakeholders: Global product and brand for a team members, Regional Commercial and Marketing Company Teams, Haematology VP, Oncology GPPS TA VP, Acerta CEO and other Cancer Enterprise VPs  

Requirements

   Essential Requirements:  

 
       
  •      Bachelor’s degree required; preferably in business or scientific graduate degree with a business / marketing related post graduate qualification    
  •    
  •      Experience in therapy, brand and product responsibility in Haematology    
  •    
  •      Experience and knowledge of creating and managing a broad base of external customers including patients, prescribers, payors, providers    
  •    
  •      Commercial experience including pre-launch and launch for oncology or specialty disease products on a regional or global basis    
  •    
  •      Delivery of high impact above and in-market customer facing/shaping initiatives    
  •    
  •      Leadership competencies, in order to set direction, inspire commitment, balance short and long term needs and constructively resolve issues    
  •    
  •      Experience in managing a P&L and of developing compelling business cases    
  •    
  •      Ability to build and lead high-performing cross-functional teams

           Travel: 10 - 20% global travel anticipated and regular travel to Redwood City, CA anticipated
