Job Description

We’re looking for a talented and passionate team leader to work at a fast-paced startup company.

Responsibilities

Lead the application and assay development team
Manage product development projects and R&D scientists; improve existing technologies
Assume technical leadership role, develop and execute technical strategies, identify technical risks, develop and execute project plan(s) and risk mitigation plan(s) to achieve program objectives
Oversee the development of market-driven applications for the Genius sequencing platform (DNA-seq, RNA-seq, targeted sequencing, re-sequencing etc.) and the GeniusPrep sample preparation platform
Work closely with the Marketing to identify suitable applications including novel applications and assays that leverage the strengths of Genapys’ sequencing and sample prep platforms
Translate marketing requirements (PRD) into functional requirements for the R&D team to develop turnkey solutions for the selected applications
Write and review all technical documents associated with assay development including SOPs, validation material, intellectual property documents, presentations, and publications
Implement and ensure strict adherence to quality control and quality assurance measures of NGS assays. Ensure adherence to all regulatory guidelines.

About GenapSys

At GenapSys, we are developing a DNA-sequencing technology that will revolutionize the world of healthcare. Our system will enable fast, accurate, and ultra-low cost genetic tests in order to better understand (and ultimately treat) genetic diseases such as Cancer, Parkinson’s, Diabetes, and Alzheimers, just to name a few.  GenapSys was founded by Dr. Hesaam Esfandyarpour, and incubated over 6 years (2004-2010) at Stanford University.  We have built an incredible team of scientists, engineers, and business professionals – join our team and be part of the adventure!

Requirements

PhD in a field such as Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, Nucleic Acid Enzymology  or related field
8+ years of R&D, applications and assay development in an industry setting
3+ years of supervisory or management experience
Working knowledge of current NGS systems and assays
Working knowledge of common NGS applications in areas such as oncology (SNV and CNVs), RNA-seq, clinical sequencing, consumer genomics, metagenomics
Ability to function and contribute to the Corporate Executive Management Leadership team
Experience in start-up environments is a plus
Ability to perform under pressure and adapt to changes (e.g., priorities and timelines) and to work in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment.
Must be detail-oriented and highly organized with strong project management and organizational skills to manage multiple projects. Accountable for effective execution of project plan(s), effective utilization of resources and on-time delivery of the major deliverables.
Strong interpersonal skills and communication skills for working on cross-functional multi-disciplinary teams, and ability to clearly present experimental results and analysis to multi-disciplinary teams.
Strong technical writing skills
Experience in using NGS bioinformatics pipeline and analyzing NGS datasets
Experience in sample preparation, library construction, library quantification, sequencing, data analysis and bioinformatics on NGS platforms such as Illumina and/or Ion Torrent
