Global Supply & Strategy Director

Locations: UK(Macclesfield), Sweden (Gartuna), US (Gaithersburg)

At AstraZeneca when we see an opportunity for change we seize it and make it happen, because an opportunity no matter how small can be the start of something big. Delivering life-changing medicines is about being entrepreneurial - finding those moments and recognising their potential.

Global Supply Chain and Strategy has both tactical and strategic responsibilities with the Global Supply and Strategy Directors (GSSDs) taking overall strategic responsibility for optimising the performance of current supply chains and continually improving efficiency and performance throughout the lifecycle of products.

Each of the GSSDs is supported by a team of Global Supply Planners and Finance Business Partners. Together they shape supply strategy, supply chain risk, plan, review and set targets end-to-end for the supply chains in their individual product portfolios.

As GSSD, you will be responsible for collaborating with site and functional representatives in the Global Supply Teams deployed around the world on the strategic direction of the supply of their products. You will play a critical interface role with the GPPS function ensuring the market demands are analysed and incorporated into the strategic Product plans.

You will have a broad and comprehensive understanding of Supply Chain within manufacturing and operations and how this contributes to achieving the objectives of the overall business. It is key that you have expert knowledge of Supply Chain design and how this contributes to successful operational performance.

Functional Knowledge

As GSSD, you will utilise knowledge and experience of a number of functions to develop long term strategies and influence strategic decisions, in particular on the design of product supply chains to manage risks and opportunities leading this across Operations (Including PT&D), Research & Development, GPPS and other functions.

You will need to have good knowledge and understanding of the Development process in order to influence and drive the development of effective supply chains for new products and interact effectively with the Pharmaceutical Technology and Development organisation. You will also need to understand the clinical trial process in order to effectively manage supply for Clinical Trials from Phase 3.

You will have kn
owledge of critical Supply Chain measures essential in delivering Supply Chain operational performance end to end including on time in full launches of New Products. In addition you will be accountable for designing and implementing Supply Chain improvement plans primarily focused in the 24 month timeline.

Business Knowledge

You will have a comprehensive understanding of development, manufacturing and supply and how other functions contribute to achieving the Supply Chain objectives of the business.

You will represent Global Operations in key senior cross functional decision making groups in order to make effective decisions and to optimise input to other functions.

You will require a thorough knowledge of the pharmaceutical or broader healthcare/FMCG industries and an understanding of the global context and its application to business opportunities.

People Management

You will have management responsibilities for a diverse range of activities and projects acting as the key sponsor for projects and programmes supporting their product portfolio. While not including significant responsibility for functional budgets and resources, you will be required to provide product/brand leadership to other senior managers within the function.

Problem Solving

You will become involved in a diverse range ofproblems/opportunities
requiring complex judgements and solutions based on highly developed levels of conceptual thought and strategic vision and analysis, e.g. life cycle supply chain design and delivery of Supply Chain improvement plans.

You will be required to work with Global Commercial to agree, interpret and follow up on Product Supply Plans and, as such, provide input regarding opportunities that shape future strategy.

You will make recommendations and approve investment decisions to support life cycle supply chain improvements for an assigned product portfolio. You will be required to handle the highest level of risk evaluation and management.

Communication

You will act as an external ambassador for AstraZeneca representing the Global Operations function in many business forums and across various business levels and will possess strength and independence to challenge others in senior roles in other parts of Global Operations and the rest of the business when appropriate.

Impact on Business Results

The impact of this role is on the full business activities of the Supply Chain function in Operations and has a direct impact on the wider success of the business. In particular, you will be accountable for ensuring on time in full availability for new Product introductions.
