As a Global Publications Strategy & Operations Director in Gaithersburg, MD you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. GMA (Global Medical Affairs) bridges science and commercial, integrating corporate, portfolio, therapy areas and product strategies, providing strategic direction from early-stage research through to commercialization.  

   Main Duties and Responsibilities  

   The Global Publications Strategy & Operations (GPSO) Director will drive the implementation and maintenance of a new business model with both on-shore and off-shore (India) components. As GPSO director you will lead implementation of the new operating model including close collaboration with supplier to ensure success. You will engage in development of communications, stakeholder engagement plan, development of processes and roles and responsibilities for India partner as well as Global Publications team.  

   Additionally, as the GPSO Director, you will engage with IT team to ensure on-shore and off-shore personnel have access to necessary systems and tools including Datavision/Clear, AZ email, data sets, etc. to develop publications as well as engage with Biostatistics to ensure adequate analytic resources exist for publication development.  

   As the GPSO Director, you will be accountable for demand projection and management of on-shore and off-shore resources within budget and timelines in agreement with the Global Publications Leadership Team (GPLT) as well as be the main point of contact for AZ in managing India partner relationship for day-to-day activities. Additionally, you will monitor and report AZ Global Publication Policy and Standards adherence by on-shore and off-shore teams providing recommendations and plans to address identified or potential gaps.  

   As the GPSO Director, you will develop and employ performance indicators to gauge and improve quality, timeliness and cost efficiency, ensuring development of high quality, scientifically accurate publications by on-shore and off-shore medical writing team.  

   Additional responsibilities include leading budget reconciliation meeting to ensure efficient and timely use of funds as per plan and leading continuous improvement efforts by identifying, developing and launching new processes or removing unnecessary processes to enhance collaboration, simplicity and role clarity.  


   Essential Requirements  

  •      Bachelor’s Degree in Science or Business    
  •      Demonstrated experience working with a Pharma-Supplier off-shore model    
  •      Experience in managing supplier relationship with specific attention to service level agreement terms and key performance indicators in order to ensure delivery excellence    
  •      Demonstrated understanding of global publications and external agency roles and responsibilities in medical publications or communications    
  •      Experience of working globally, cross-culturally and cross-functionally    
  •      Demonstrated project management experience with relevant experience managing off-shore and on-shore resources    
  •      Broad understanding of drug development process    
  •      Experience in change management    
  •      Demonstrated performance, budget, and resource management in a global organization
