North American Commercial is the ‘face’ of AstraZeneca and MedImmune to our many healthcare clients. AstraZeneca's strategy in CVMD focuses on ways to reduce morbidity, mortality and organ damage by addressing multiple risk factors across cardiovascular (CV) disease, diabetes and chronic kidney-disease indications. The patient-centric approach is reinforced by science-led life-cycle management programmes and technologies, including early research into regenerative methods.

The Forecasting Leader, Diabetes will report directly to the Forecasting Excellence Director and will be deployed to the Diabetes Business Insight Team. This role will be responsible for providing forecast support for multiple brands within the overall Diabetes Portfolio, potentially including late-stage products in development.

This includes providing risk analyses, assessment of the impact of a variety of market events, assessing business opportunities, and the continuous evaluation of new forecasting techniques and technologies. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills are required. Effective written, verbal and presentation skills are a must, along with a drive for continuous improvement and challenging the status quo. These are the key factors for success in this position.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

You will be responsible for developing sales forecasts including volume demand, market share, and product sales in support of financial planning (Annual and Rolling Business Updates, long range business plans)

Development of a range of forecast scenarios and ad hoc sensitivity analyses to inform critical decisions that influence business shape and strategic direction

Design and deploy insightful, concise forecasting reviews that effectively drives team understanding and focused decision-making

Partner with counterparts in GPPS on long range Business Plan, driving alignment where possible and a clear understanding of differences in US and GPPS forecast views where applicable

Ensure alignment of forecast assumptions and impacts across multiple stakeholders including: marketing, sales, MAPS, finance, and sales operations

Participate in the acquisition, collation and interpretation of competitive intelligence within the Diabetes landscape

Proactively identify external and internal events/factors that influence sales forecasts, providing both clear guidance on potential impacts and recommendations on appropriate course of action

Manage external contracting support as required

Subject matter expert on key secondary data sources


Essential Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; preferably Advanced degree in relevant field (e.g., math/statistics, operations research, life sciences, MBA) or equivalent work experience
  • 5+ years of analytical experience, 3 years in health care industry
  • 3+ years of forecasting experience

Desirable Requirements:

  • 7+ years of analytical/modeling experience (e.g., forecasting, brand analytics) with 4+ years within pharmaceutical industry
  • Expertise in probability and statistics with strong background in Excel-based tool development
  • Strong analytical skills with statistical modeling experience (time series expertise preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with multiple business leaders across diverse functions
  • Demonstrated success in translating analytical results into concise, actionable insight and recommendations
  • Thorough understanding of relevant secondary data sources (e.g., NPA, NSP, DDD, Xponent)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; consultative background preferred with a proven ability to work in a collaborative and influencing fashion that drives to business action
  • Ability to manage and lead numerous projects across multiple brands simultaneously
