Job Description

Xencor Inc. is an innovative biotechnology company located in the Los Angeles area (near Pasadena) and in San Diego.  We have a very deep drug development pipeline including three programs currently in clinical testing with one more expected to start clinical testing in 2017 and have an excellent opportunity for a Flow cytometry Operations Manager to join our team.  We use our pioneering XmAb® technology to develop better biotherapeutics – antibodies that target new biological mechanisms and have the potential to be more potent, safer and longer lasting – with the goal of improving patient outcomes and quality of life.  In addition to generating a pipeline of novel drug candidates, with ten in clinical testing by Xencor or our partners, our XmAb® technology has enabled multiple collaborations  with leading biopharmaceutical companies including Novartis, Amgen,  Morphosys, Merck, CSL, Janssen(J&J), Alexion and Boehringer Ingelheim.

Job duties will include:

•   Operation and maintenance of BD FACSMelody sorter to ensure sterile sorting of cells. The incumbent should also be comfortable in training users on the operation of the sorter.
•   Maintenance of BD Canto-II and Fortessa X-20 flow cytometers. Must be able to troubleshoot problems and work with BD phone support and technicians to minimize down time on cytometers.
•   Oversee administration of service contracts on all machines and ensure that preventive maintenance is performed regularly.
•   Order and maintain inventory of reagents, parts, and consumables.
•   Run quality-control checks and track the performance of all machines.
•   Maintain schedules of sorter and cytometers.
•   Help with data management and back up as well as advise on data analysis when needed.

•   Bachelor’s degree in biological science or related field with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in multicolor flow cytometry. Previous experience managing flow cytometry instruments in a multi-user core facility is a plus.
•   In-depth knowledge of sorting and cytometry including optics, data acquisition, fluidics and principles of fluorescence.
•   Ability to understand the needs of diverse users, to work alone or in a team environment, and be detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
•   Experience in use of flow cytometry acquisition and data analysis software including BD FACSDiva, Flowjo and BD FACSChorus.
•   Excellent verbal and written communication skills
