Date Posted  Apr 26, 2013 Finance Manager/Analyst (FM) for Departments of Philosophy and Religious Studies:The Finance Manager/Analyst reports to the Department Manager of Administration and has overall responsibility for all matters relating to finance in both departments. - independently analyzing and taking action on any issue or problem that arises and performing all necessary followup. The combined departments have approximately 35 Academic Council faculty, 15 adjunct faculty, 80 graduate students and 30 undergraduate majors. There are seven staff members, one of whom, the Finance Assistant, reports to this position. The two departments have combined operating budgets of approximately $9.5M, with an additional $3.2M in designated, gift, grant, and endowment funds.In consultation with the Department Administrator, the FMA prepares the annual consolidated operating budgets and manages the fiscal year-end close for both departments -- compiling, organizing, and verifying all data, analyzing discrepancies and solving problems. The FM independently creates and tracks all
Salary and non-
Salary budgets as well as over ~ 150 departmental accounts (operating, designated, gift, endowment, grant, and cost share), and also tracks ~$1.4M in special commitments in cooperation with the H&S Dean’s Office. The FM initiates setup of new funds and accounts as needed; initiates expense and fund transfers, and
Salary journals; and monitors and approves all routine financial transactions initiated by the Finance Assistant in Oracle Financials (i.e., travel reimbursements and p-card verification, procurement requisitions, etc.). The FM initiates and tracks all HR and payroll transactions in Axess ensuring correct payment of
Salary and
Salary supplements to all department employees. The FM tracks fund balances, independently researches questions/problems and presents options for solutions. The FM also provides general oversight in connection with annual budgeting and year-end close processes of the two departments’ graduate aid budgets (which are managed by the Graduate Student Services Officer) as well as of the undergraduate budget.This position serves as primary financial liaison with the Finance Group of the School of Humanities and Sciences’ Dean’s Office, the Office of Sponsored Research, the Humanities Center, Continuing Studies, Office of Technology Licensing, University’s Financial Services Center (FSC) and other Stanford offices. The FM generates reports as requested by faculty, staff, H&S Dean’s Office and other University offices, interpreting data as needed. The FM must maintain familiarity with all pertinent IRS rules and regulations as well as with Stanford University’s internal financial policies and regulations.This position serves as lead staff resource when the department administrator is not available.

Qualifications:
minimally three years of progressive experience in finance management; demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel. Experience with Oracle Financials, and Peoplesoft preferred. Experience with University financial systems and a knowledge of University policies and regulations are strongly preferred. Strong analytical and communication skills are essential. Must demonstrate good judgment and discretion in managing highly confidential information and must be a team player. Bachelor’s degree required.
