At AstraZeneca every one of our employees makes a difference to patient lives every day. Each and every one of us believes that science has the ability to change lives and that to deliver this takes many people with many skill sets. When we deliver a life-changing medicine, that success comes from the combined efforts of all of our people. As a Finance Business Partner - Supply Chain, in Gaithersburg, MD, you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The Global Biologics Supply Chain Finance team provides Business Partnering support to the Global Supply Chain and Strategy and the Biologics External Sourcing (BES) teams within the Operations SET area.

Global Supply Chain and Strategy has end to end accountability for the design and delivery of AstraZeneca’s brand supply chains. This involves close interaction with the Science, GPPS and Commercial SET areas and driving supply chain efficiency through site activity. The business partnering activity is wide and varied, mainly brand aligned. Good awareness of AZ products, especially late stage pipeline and recent launches would be important.

BES has the responsibility for the management of all large molecule Operations spend with external suppliers in the end to end supply chain.

As the Finance Business Partner, you will be working with a variety of customers in a fast-moving environment within the Global Supply Chain organizations, including Supply Chain teams, Supplier Relationship management teams, and the Operations Procurement function. You will provide insightful and commercial input to business decisions, challenge key forecasting assumptions and deliver financial analysis of key risks and sensitivities. You will enjoy engaging confidently with third parties in the negotiation of contracts and in shaping supply and collaboration agreements will be key. In addition, you will also be expected to provide leadership and guidance to other members of the finance team, as well as building links with the broader Operations and AZ finance organizations.

In this exciting opportunity, you will be a fully integrated member of Finance Biologics Supply team; Supply Chain and Supplier Relationship teams, supporting Biologics Supply Chain Leads, Global Supply Strategy Directors (GSSDs), Global Supply Planners (GSPs), Biologics Value Chain Leads (CVCL) and New Product Stewards (NPS) to drive strategic and tactical direction, contributing across a range of financial and non-financial issues. You will ensure that your evaluation and recommendations are clearly communicated and understood. This will include presentations and written documents and participation in group discussions. In particular you need to be able to articulate the risks of any proposal and influence your team members and stakeholders and work with them to find appropriate mitigations (e.g. use additional information, build appropriate terms into supply contracts). You will be responsible for developing and presenting robust business cases, which analyse and evaluate the cost/benefits of BES/GSCS/Operations Procurement projects, using a consistent methodology demonstrating a deep understanding of the AZ business, Pharma industry and the wider commercial environment. You will be able to engage with senior leaders and other AZ Finance teams to shape and drive key strategic inputs to support the Operations Business Plan, providing insight and analysis for presentation to Operations EVP / VP Finance, while providing accurate information for the RBUs/ABU/Phased Budget/Business Plan for the Supply Chain / Category teams you support, along with explanations of business drivers for key movements (across P&L, inventory and capital). In addition, you will need to proactively seek information needed to construct robust financial models from a wide source of data and disciplines, and have the confidence to deal with areas of ambiguity, while shaping and reviewing supply and sourcing contracts, providing teams with advice on many aspects beyond the base financial terms. You will be accountable for ensuring that the financial terms in the final contract agree to those approved by the key stakeholders. You will need to understand and be able to explain to non-finance colleagues the finance and accounting implications of the business cases you work on. Coaching of your business colleagues on the various project teams will be an important role. Lastly, you will work closely with the Integrated Finance Solution (IFS) teams in the Centre of Excellence to support forecasts (RBU/ABU etc.), the FMC process and monthly commentary for the Management Information pack on variance analysis, and validate procurement savings in the supply chains you support.
