Description

The Director of Facilities will manage the day-to-day operations and act as the primary liaison with users of Sequenom’s San Diego facilities.  They will develop and implement programs to provide leadership and ensure effective and efficient operations are in place.  In addition they will manage vendor relationships and be responsible for the budgetary aspects of the facility department to include staffing, operational and capital expenditures.  They will establish standards and guidelines for major equipment and system implementation, purchases, use maintenance and replacement and will provide support in planning, engineering and construction for projects as required.   This is a critical role to ensure the organization has the most suitable working environment for its employees and their activities.

Responsibilities:

*Responsible for the management of facility team, including recruiting, hiring, motivating, performance management, training and development.

*Develop and maintain the highest standards for customer satisfaction.  Cross train staff for efficient coverage of all facilities.

*Manage budgetary aspects of facility department budget, and will develops and implements facilities policies and procedures to standardize programs and training.

*Project management oversight for major equipment/systems maintenance, repair and/or replacement.  Report consolidation and follow up benchmarking, to analyze and manage building operations, contracts, and expense.  Will recommend and implement approved energy management solutions.

*Support safety and risk management, including insurance carrier interface.  Ensures adherence to security and safety procedures and monitors onsite security personnel.

*Participate on Safety Committee and supports emergency response actions.  Performs and coordinates response to emergency calls for related problems.

*Represent the company in audits by local regulatory authorities including Department of Health, Wastewater, Air Pollution Control District, Fire Department, and other agencies.

*Support space planning and schedules relocation of personnel and furniture.

*Assist in supporting and overseeing onsite construction projects/contractors as required.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

*Bachelor degree or equivalent and minimum 8+ years of full-time experience in facilities and plant management experience required.

*Demonstrated expertise in the appropriate facility management, staff supervision, budget management and training programs is necessary.

*5+ years of supervisor experience relating to facilities management including HVAC systems, building trades and construction, maintenance, or repair work; or experience performing duties equivalent to a plant manager within Biotech; or a combination of training, education, and experience equivalent to one of the employment standards listed above that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

*Possession of a valid California Driver’s License.

*Must have working knowledge of the operations, services, and activities of a facilities maintenance program; construction methods and practices; tools, materials, methods, and procedures used in building maintenance and repair; basic purchasing methods and practices; Federal, State, and local laws, ordinances, and regulations pertaining to the building industry and safety practices; basic math to determine materials used and estimate the cost of projects.

*Ability to work in a team environment and consistently meet critical deadlines.

*Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word & Excel).
