Description:

In this position, you will bring a deep experience and credibility in oncology biology and Drug Discovery and be responsible for leading AZ’s Bioscience efforts at the Boston site. An important component of this role will be as a member of the global Oncology iScience Leadership and Management teams contributing to strategy, portfolio delivery and resource decision making. You will also work collaboratively with colleagues in the Pharmacology, DMPK and UK Bioscience departments to ensure scientific and timely delivery of the project teams.

Major Responsibilities

  • Oversee and line manage all bioscience/biology capability at the R&D Boston site
  • Help define the areas of biology and individual targets to pursue
  • Oversee Target ID and validation efforts and the interface with Discovery Sciences around hit finding design and execution
  • Propose internal programs and licensing opportunities
  • Drive a team of scientists delivering on projects in the IMED

Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline
  • Significant experience and credibility in oncology with a track record of publication and delivering in discovery
  • Broad background and comprehensive understanding of small molecule drug discovery and development is essential

Preferred Background

  • Wide experience of the drug discovery and development process and a working knowledge of clinical and regulatory principles and guidelines
  • Extensive experience in operating across international boundaries, as well as cross-functionally

  • Internal – Stakeholders within AZ IMED, notably Chemistry, DMPK and Discovery Sciences leadership and notably the Bioscience head in the UK
  • External – Key experts and though leaders
