Accountable for activities involved in developing and implementing mid-to long-term supply chain strategies and networks. in support of business growth, supporting business execution of new programs and initiatives that include forecast and coordination for key logistics events, distribution network redesigns, monitoring key performance indicators, analyzing cost/ performance data, and coordinating cross-functional work teams to increase effectiveness of supply chain logistics initiatives.
The primary role of the Distribution Strategy Lead (DSL) is to utilize knowledge of Supply Chain process and business analysis skills to provide proactive distribution planning & services for Global Clinical Supply (GCS) studies. This position provides high level and strategic support to Clinical Supply Logistics (CSL) while utilizing their knowledge of distribution, logistics, export processes and global clinical supply requirements to ensure timely and accurate movement of clinical supplies.
The role is accountable to Patients and GCS leaders, for delivering GCS logistics activities with regards to planning, design, production, cost effectiveness and timely delivery of high quality clinical supplies. Proactively ensure quality and compliance through risk identification and mitigation plans, strategic planning and execution, and overall design input on a program and protocol basis.
This position, working independently and influencing others without having a direct reporting relationship, coordinates and executes the fulfilment of customer requests while providing excellent customer service. This role strives to utilize technology and industry trend information to proactively and continuously improve distribution & inventory management performance. Study support involves distribution and import planning and shipment issue resolution in order to support and facilitate efficient and effective finished goods and inventory management moves to distribution centers, depots and sites.
*Develop positive and collaborative partnerships with key stakeholders across Pharmaceutical Sciences and partner lines (e.g., DevOps/Alliance Partners). Contribute to strategic and continuous improvement initiatives. Ensure excellence in CSL contributions to Clinical Supply Team project management teams, including the use of harmonized tools and systems, to deliver cost effective, high quality clinical supplies to patients according to agreed timelines. Proactively ensure quality and compliance through risk identification and mitigation plans, strategic planning and execution, and overall design input.
*Assist CSL Leadership with strategic development of CSL roles to support evolving needs of stakeholders and patients
-Evaluate current processes on an on-going basis and make recommendations for continuous improvement in the Distribution operating model
-Develop and deploy metrics to monitor operational performance and consistency against stated goals for logistics responsibilities.
-Support fiscal accountability to projects by refining project specific costs. Develop reporting and forecasting tools to help estimate future logistics costs.
-Further develop/ refine human resource capacity analysis for CSL to align resource with project needs according to portfolio priorities
-Lead and/or contribute to strategic and continuous improvement initiatives to support the CSL, Clincial Supply Operations (CSO) & GCS organization.
*Ensure compliance with all legal requirements (e.g., EHS, cGMP, GCP, import/export, Quality Standards, 21 CFR Part 11) by creating and maintaining a culture committed to quality; Accountable for maintaining training and compliance required for the role; Enhance quality and compliance on a site and patient basis utilizing risk and mitigation plansContribute to global, cross-functional continuous improvement strategies to improve productivity and exceed customer satisfaction. Assess cross functional impact of procedure/ process changes to CSL processes
*Interface directly with GCS and other groups within Pharmaceutical Sciences in order to provide timely and responsive guidance and issue resolution regarding distribution activities.
*Establish Program and protocol level distribution strategies with Clinical Supply Teams (CST). Contribute to decisions on country feasibility and strategy discussions well in advance of the protocol decisions. Ownership of timing and challenges on country movements in order to meet project nrequirements.
*Ensure excellent customer service through the development of strong working relationships with key customers and partners leaders to facilitate open lines of communication regarding project priorities, staff development opportunities and issue resolution.
*Primary interface for Clinical Supply Strategy & Mangement (CSSM)/ Supply Chain Leads (SCL) on logistics related challenges; Triage issues and provide appropriately detailed updates to CSL leadership
*Utilize project management skills to develop robust distribution/ logistics planning and management tools; optimize of distribution strategy to ensure patient continuity; high quality project oversight and activity review.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Project Management (or equivalent)
Must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs including SharePoint
MBA, MA/MS or Professional Qualification
Advanced training in project management, supply chain management, scientific or clinical disciplines, business administration and/or people development are desirable.
6-10 years work experience in project management, supply chain management or business analytics, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry
Six Sigma training and/or certification
Technical Skills Requirements:
*Demonstrated experience of managing and measuring work, negotiation, conflict management, influencing, process improvement, project management. Knowledge of Interdependencies of principles, practices and concepts of supply chain and relevant business disciplines
*Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects and processes. Budget forecasting and financial modelling; MS Office suite advanced proficiency, in particular, Excel
Must include some of the following:
*Drug development process
*Pharmaceutical manufacturing /packaging & labeling
*International distribution and associated regulatory requirements
*cGxP requirements, Quality Assurance/ Compliance activities
*Running project teams
*Inventory Management and Distribution Systems including Interactive Response Technology (IVRS/ IRT)
*Knowledgeable or proficient in data analytics tools such as Business Objects and possess the ability to translate a business need into supporting data with speed and accuracy
Experienced Colleagues would be expected to have:
*Prior experience with development & implementation of strategic plans in research and development operations within the pharmaceutical industry as well as a solid understanding of interdependencies of supply chain and logistical processes.
*Several years' experience in Inventory Control / Distribution, document management systems and data integration with external network.
Physical Position Requirements:
*Role requires Groton site presence
*While mainly office based, job requires ability to monitor operational distribution / receiving areas (standing, garbing, walking potentially for extended periods of time)
*Ability to travel (domestic and international) up to 15% of the time; must be able to drive and/or fly to vendor locations with advance notice and/ or attend job related training as required
