As a Director/Senior Director, Precision Medicine in Gaithersburg, MD you’ll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients’ lives. They represent many of the most well recognized and respected products in the industry, and build strong relationships with healthcare professionals.
AstraZeneca’s vision in Oncology is to help patients by redefining the cancer-treatment paradigm, with the aim of bringing six new cancer medicines to patients between 2013 and 2020. A broad pipeline of next-generation medicines is focused principally on four disease areas - breast, ovarian, lung and hematological cancers. As well as other tumor types, these are being targeted through four key platforms - immunotherapy, the genetic drivers of cancer and resistance, DNA damage repair, and antibody drug conjugates, underpinned by personalized healthcare and biomarker technologies.
The Director/Senior Director, Precision Medicine ensures the timely, high quality cross-brand diagnostic and testing strategic solutions to enable optimal treatment throughout the patient journey. An important element of this role is to develop strategic and long-term partnerships with relevant Oncology internal and external stakeholders. Setting the strategic vision to ensure alignment with decision makers who impact the complex Oncology ecosystem is a key imperative for this role. The Senior Director must possess a deep scientific understanding of the testing journey, and the clinical operational issues encountered along the testing pathway, enabling tailored testing solutions to be developed.
The Director/Senior Director, Precision Medicine will need to understand and have insight into how potential business development opportunities in the Precision Medicine space could impact AstraZeneca’s targeted therapy and commercialization strategy. This role will lead through the decision-making, and implementation of these potential business development opportunities.
In addition, the Director/Senior Director, Precision Medicine is responsible for developing pre-launch, launch, and post-launch cross-functional and cross-brand diagnostics strategy. Defining requirements for diagnostic lifecycle management strategy. Developing, evaluating and delivering the diagnostic strategy for the relevant therapeutic asset. Maintaining relevant and current competitor market landscape analysis as it relates to diagnostics. Presenting Precision Medicine cross-brand strategy and plans to Senior leaders across the business. Working closely with iMeds – Personalized Healthcare and Biomarkers, Translational Science teams, and Brands to deliver a cohesive Precision Medicine strategy with clear KPIs (Key Performance Indicators). Establishing systematic evaluation of market performance to remove barriers to testing. Ensuring alignment and delivery of the Precision Medicine scorecard to the Oncology Task Force (OTF). Rolling out scorecard implementation across the key strategic markets (TOP 12) Cultivating and building relationships with key internal stakeholders. Establishing relationships externally that will support AZ’s position as critical diagnostic partner.
- 7+ years of experience in marketing, market planning, development, and business development in the pharmaceutical or Diagnostics industry (experience in both industries is a plus)
- At least 5 years of Commercial pharmaceutical experience
- At least 5 years of experience in the drug and diagnostics development process
- BS/BA in Life Sciences, or Business
- Master’s or Doctorate degree (PharmD, PhD or MBA)
- Excellent communication skills
- Previous experience in leading the development and implementation of drug/Diagnostic development or commercial strategy
- Demonstrated understanding of commercialization of Diagnostics tests
- Proven track record for consistently meeting or exceeding financial, quantitative, and qualitative targets.
- Solid reputation within the business and industry
- Knowledge of relevant diagnostic regulatory environment
- Demonstrated understanding of diagnostic reimbursement
- Knowledge of scientific verbal and written communication
