Job Description

The Director/Senior Director of Corporate Development will lead partnering and licensing activities for Asterias and will also support a wide range of business management functions for Asterias’ operations.  Critical responsibilities will include outreach to potential corporate partners, negotiating strategic alliances and licensing agreements, support of investor relations activities, financial modeling, budgeting, and financial planning and analysis.


•   Working with COO and other members of executive team, consummates key strategic partnerships to advance Asterias’ programs.  Leads partnering process including creating key partnering documents such as pitchpack and DCF model, managing partnering outreach and negotiation process, and serving as lead contact for partner due diligence. Introduces Asterias to potential partners and to negotiate term sheets and contracts
•   Leads negotiations of term sheets, license agreements, and strategic partnering agreements
•   Establishes and maintains key financial models for Asterias’ programs such as valuations, cost of goods analyses and commercial projections
•   Performs pricing and reimbursement analyses to drive commercialization strategy for Asterias’ products
•   Works together with program management and accounting functions to develop budget forecasts and  track budget vs. actual spend by project on a quarterly basis
•   Works with CEO, CFO and COO to support investor and media relations efforts


•   B.S./M.S. required; Ph.D. and/or M.B.A. preferred  
•   5-7 years of broad life science business experience in management consulting, investment banking, or business development within the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry
•   Previous experience with partnering/IP licensing and valuation modeling required
•   Skilled negotiator with proven ability to find the middle ground
•   Exceptional communicator with ability to tailor message to a wide range of stakeholders
•   Broad familiarity with multiple disciplines in the development of pharmaceutical products
•   Ability to come up to speed quickly and converse readily with team members regarding complex business, scientific and medical concepts
•   Excellent problem solving skills; ability to integrate complex inputs into coherent and actionable recommendations
•   Maintains focus on strategic big picture without compromising attention to detail
•   Potential to take on increasing responsibilities as the company’s portfolio and organization expands
•   Comfortable with uncertainty;  thrives and succeeds in a team-oriented entrepreneurial environment
•   Computer literacy including fluency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
•   Up to 50% travel required, some international
