National Cord Blood Program * New York, NY

At New York Blood Center(NYBC), one of the most comprehensive blood centers in the world, has a dynamic opportunity in their National Cord Blood Program the first and largest public cord blood bank in the world. NYBC's National Cord Blood Program (NCBP) was founded in 1992 to investigate cord blood as a possible solution to a critical public health need: finding appropriate hematopoietic transplants for patients who have no matched bone marrow donors.  NCBP is the first cord blood bank to have a licensed cord blood product, HEMACORD®. Supported by the Howard and Abby Milstein Foundation, NCBP is committed to providing high quality cord blood units and promoting high standards in cord blood banking.

As a key member of our leadership team and reporting to the VP, National Cord Blood Program, the Director of Operations will oversee the development, implementation and strategic direction of operational functions associated with the collection, manufacture, testing, storage and commercial activities related to the distribution of both HEMACORD and IND Cord Blood Units (CBU) for clinical use within the National Cord Blood Program (NCBP).


Responsibilities include:
. Planning, implementing and directing the programs technical and administrative operations
. Full cycle budget responsibility(metrics, analysis, monitoring, preparation)
. Working to advance customer relationship management, marketing, communications, and brand development for HEMACORD and research unit sales
. Developing , implementing  and monitoring  strategic options that will provide operational and financial  efficiency   to ensure clinically useful cord blood units
. Developing business plans related to opening new collection sites that will help meet goals
. Identifying and developing new business opportunities
. Ensure compliance with FDA and other regulatory bodies
. Maintaining a high level of technical/managerial training for staff and managers through in-house training and outside programs
. Working with Legal Department to negotiate business terms, as well as implement and manage contracts through execution and expiration for suppliers/vendors
. Directing the management of our materials supply chain

Along with the ability to effectively develop and communicate our program mission, vision and values, the successful candidate will have a BA/BS (Master's Degree in Business or Health Administration preferred), and 8+ years of biologics manufacturing management experience, including at least 3 years overseeing FDA regulated cGMP manufacturing and operations. The ability to understand business problems, manage budgets, generate solutions, present ideas, lead teams, and execute plans/strategies are all essential, as is the ability to motivate staff, develop goals/objectives, negotiate business terms, and analyze/recommend pricing for all projects. Superior analytical, financial management, decision-making, project management, interpersonal, and oral/written communication skills are required.
