Description

The Director of Accounting reports to the VP, Corporate Controller. The position is responsible for coordinating, administering and controlling the financial operations of the organization. Functional responsibilities include directing the accounting function, the production of periodic financial reports; maintaining an adequate system of fiscal records and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risks; enhancing the accuracy of the Company’s reported financial results along with shortening the monthly/ quarterly close calendar; and ensuring that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles. This position will also be responsible for planning and maintaining growth of accounting systems necessary for commercialization. Reporting directly to this position are: Senior SEC Reporting Manager, Senior Accounting Manager, Payroll Manager and Stock Administrator.



Key Accountabilities/Core Job Responsibilities:
•Oversee and participate in monthly close process and other daily activities (e.g. (journal entries, accruals process, cash distributions, account reconciliations, and monthly financial reporting) of the Finance department. This includes ensuring the company’s financial/accounting process is performed in a timely and accurate manner per the close calendar and according to GAAP and the Company’s standards.
•Review the Company’s forms 10Q, 10K, and other filings with the SEC. Work closely with external auditors on all SEC filings including earning releases.
•Proactively research technical accounting and reporting matters; stay current on all pending/new accounting and SEC requirements and analyze potential impact on the Company’s financial reporting.
•Provide monthly financial reporting for executive management and the Board of Directors.
•Weekly review of voucher packages to support check signing and wire processing.
•Manage annual audits and quarterly reviews with external auditors (e.g., financial statements, 401K, property tax, sales tax).
•Overall responsible for annual proxy preparation process including updating of executive compensation disclosures.
•Ensure Sarbanes Oxley section 404 (SOX) compliance; participate in ongoing monitoring, testing and evaluation of internal controls.
•Prepare / review of quarterly stock-based compensation expense (FAS 123R) for employee and non-employee related options and related footnotes disclosures in 10Q and 10K.
•Support budgeting process and multi-year plan to develop departmental staffing, budget, training, and capital expense plans to meet departmental needs and organization objectives.
•Work closely with the FP&A team to provide monthly actuals in a timely and accurate manner.
•Play a critical role in ERP implementation
•Take a significant role in determining accounting systems requirement as the Company moves into a commercial organization.
•Direct activities of Accounting/Finance staff, which includes Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Payroll and Stock Administration; direct supervision of managers and staff.
•Work closely with the Clinical department to accurately record monthly vendor and quarterly site accruals, process required payments, reconciliations and properly report actual costs.
•Other duties may be assigned.

Requirements

Qualifications:
•Comprehensive, strong working knowledge of GAAP and SEC Reporting, financial metrics, budgeting and project accounting.
•Ability to interface and communicate effectively with executive management and other functions with the organization.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•Must be highly motivated, a strong team player with a high degree of professionalism.
•Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
•Strong research and project management skills. Ability to identify and analyze problems using sound judgment.
•Direct experience in implementing various accounting systems.
•Excellent supervisory skills.


Education Requirements (degree, certifications, etc.):
•Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
•MBA is a plus.
•Certified Public Accountant with Big 4 experience.

Preferred Skills/Abilities

Pharmaceutical experience strongly preferred.
