Job Description

The Director of Cure Research within the JDRF research department is a newly created scientific leadership position designed to drive the successful execution of JDRF’s strategic research plan for accelerating the development and delivery of novel therapies to alter the course of and ultimately cure type 1 diabetes (T1D). The Director of Cure Research will have responsibility for directing JDRF’s Cure research program and grants portfolio, overseeing JDRF’s efforts to discover, develop and deliver disease modifying therapies to control and reverse the autoimmune process and to protect and expand beta cell mass. Effective candidates will catalyze, drive, integrate, and coordinate activities of our academic- and industry-based investigators in this area. The candidate must have in-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical drug development, a deep understanding of the current competitive therapeutic landscape and have demonstrated experience in managing direct reports and project teams.


• M.D. or Ph.D. or equivalent degree required preferably in Immunology, Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Pharmacology or Endocrinology
• 7-10 years of drug discovery and/or development experience within the pharmaceutical industry, CRO, health-related consulting company, or biomedical/clinical experience within academia (or a combination thereof)
• Proven ability to work in cross-functional and cross regional teams and deliver results
• Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to successfully influence internal and external stakeholders, including outside development partners and volunteers
• Proven organizational skills and experience managing project teams
• Scientific and/or medical knowledge of diabetes highly desired
• Knowledge of research portfolio management and experience in administration and management of biomedical research programs
• Ability to travel about 20% of the time
